Job Description
General Functions
The Sustainability Special Projects Coordinator will play a key role in advancing Orange County’s sustainability initiatives. This on-call position will assist with supporting implementation of our sustainability plan with a focus on one or two key pillars within the plan, provide grant assistance, support sustainability-related events, and handle various communications. Additionally, the Sustainability Coordinator will support other projects as they arise, contributing to the overall mission of creating a more sustainable and resilient community.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Sustainability Plan Focus:
  • Assist with project management for the Sustainable Operations and Resilience Action Plan, with a focus primarily on one or two key pillars of the plan, such as energy efficiency, mobility, water conservation, or green purchasing.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of programs and initiatives related to these focus areas.
  • Monitor progress and assist with collecting data for key metrics related to sustainability goals based on assigned key pillars of the plan.
Grants:
  • Assist in identifying, applying for, and implementing grants related to sustainability initiatives.
  • Monitor grant deadlines, assist with required documentation, and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather necessary information for grant applications and reporting.
Event Support:
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of sustainability-related events, workshops, and outreach programs.
  • Support event logistics, including scheduling, materials preparation, and promotion.
  • Engage with community members, stakeholders, and partners to raise awareness of sustainability efforts.
  • Assist with Earth Month (April) planning and implementation.
Communications:
  • Help develop and distribute communications materials related to sustainability programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Assist in maintaining content for the sustainability section of the government website, ensuring it is up-to-date and engaging.
  • Assist with preparing content for social media and other digital platforms to promote sustainability initiatives and engage with the community.
Project Support:
  • Provide support for additional sustainability projects as they arise.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform sustainability initiatives and decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Physical or Natural Sciences, Political Science, Marketing and Communications, or a related field. Or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience on a year-to-year basis.
Valid Florida driver’s license is required.
Preferences
  • Experience in sustainability, environmental programs, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams independently with a strong drive for results.
  • Mastery of digital platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to prepare presentations, spreadsheets, and reports.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills for working with both internal and external partners to achieve shared goals.
  • Passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship.Experience with grants is preferred.
  • Experience with event planning and coordination experience is a plus.

Salary Information
Pay Grade: 418 - From $21.85 to $22.25

Notes

Working Conditions:
  • Typical office environment with occasional fieldwork required.
  • Ability to attend meetings and events outside of regular office hours as needed.
  • May require lifting and moving of materials for events.
Hours: This is an On-Call position, 24 hours per week, not to exceed 1,200 hours per year. The schedule is flexible but will require availability during regular business hours and occasional after hours and weekends.
