Systems Accessibility Associate

The Systems Accessibility Analyst along with the other digital accessibility team members promotes digital accessibility in the College of Arts and Sciences (ASC) and supports compliance of the university digital accessibility policy. Plans and carries out events and communications to raise awareness of accessibility in ASC. Offers training opportunities to create accessible documents and best practices in accessible design and coding. Support faculty and staff to make the digital content they create for their teaching and learning accessible. Ensure that live events for students, staff, and the public use digital accessibility best practices and follow the university policy. Respond to digital accessibility complaints and requests in the time referenced in the university policy. Consults with units in ASC to evaluate products they want to use in their classrooms, research, and public work. Ensures new software and websites are evaluated and necessary accommodations and/or remediation are negotiated prior to purchase or before launch. Ensures that existing software and websites are evaluated in a timely manner and based on risk, and that proper accommodations and/or remediation efforts are planned and implemented. Ensures an appropriate audit trail is maintained for all evaluations and accommodation/remediation efforts are tracked and reported. Works with other units on campus to share information about software purchases and accessibility updates on existing software. Performs yearly audits to make sure faculty and staff have taken needed policy awareness and skills training. Maintain an inventory of digital products and perform audits to verify the necessary products are checked for accessibility. Stays up to date on accessibility requirements and best practices.

Required: Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent education/experience. Understanding of HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Comfortable analyzing programming code to understand how it is functioning. Comfortable using Microsoft 365 software like Word, Power Point, and Excel. Comfortable using Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Strong organizational skills demonstrating the ability to work on multiple projects and manage priorities. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Desired: One year experience. An understanding and passion for accessibility issues. Familiar with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as well as Section 508 of the United States Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Understanding of tools to aid in accessibility evaluation. Experience working with people with disabilities. Experience testing for and remediation of accessibility barriers in web, mobile and native applications. Experience working with developers to guide development of accessible user interfaces. Experience in regulatory compliance. Significant knowledge of current and emerging accessible development practice and assistive technology. Fluency with disability law and regulation in the higher education context. Ability to do a manual digital accessibility test for websites and software. Familiar with what a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) is and how to interpret one provided by a vendor.

The pay range for this job profile is $26.49 - $34.81. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
