At the North Bay Jack Garland Airport Corp., we ensure that local businesses as well as the residents of North Bay and surrounding communities always have access to a premiere and unique regional commercial airport. In doing so we support the operations of daily medical flights, airline services, regional and national emergency responses, corporate and personal charters, and wide range of general aircraft operators which connect our communities with necessary services abroad for health, business, and personal needs to name a few.
Located in North Bay, we operate the airport as a part of critically important municipal infrastructure, directly supporting numerous companies and hundreds of aviation related jobs onsite every day.

As a key member of the Airport Operations team, the MDO will report directly to the Operations Manager, and will be responsible for keeping all the facilities in a great working order; ensuring winter maintenance is complete and access to the airport’s many facilities and infrastructure is always available. This position operates a variety of heavy equipment and completes hands-on tasks to maintain the airport airside and groundside surfaces; performs general repairs and preventative maintenance work on all airport surfaces, buildings, facilities and equipment, as well as
- Inspects all equipment for mechanical defects and safety on a regular basis and report any mechanical attention required; taking action to resolve minor maintenance items independently
- Report safety concerns to management. Submit irregularities and deficiencies if required.
- Complete inspections of assigned areas of responsibility including equipment, tools, PPE, etc.
- Following on-the-job training:
- Equipment and facility maintenance as required

- Ability to undertake preliminary troubleshooting and routine minor equipment maintenance (monitoring wear and taking action to resolve, changing consumable components, and maintaining cleanliness or washing)
- Willingness to undertake varied work that supports the continued operations of all facilities but may not use heavy equipment (fence repairs, surface line painting, crack sealing, general building maintenance repairs)
You must be legally eligible to work for a Canadian company (e.g., be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or possess a valid work permit), have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, fluent in English (to be able to study and receive a Radio Operator Certificate) provide a recent clear Police Records Check (to be able to receive a Restricted Area Pass), have a current and valid DZ driver’s license (or transferrable equivalent), and have experience operating equipment such as but not exclusive to the following.
- Wheeled articulating loaders
- Truck (highway or otherwise commercially rated)
- Plow / wing plow and plow truck
Optionally, considered assets but may alternatively receive on the job training for, would include experience with:
- Grader
- Towed trailer
- Excavator
- Tractor (mower, snow blowing, or plowing)
- Commercial self-propelled snow blower
- Other unrelated but transferable heavy equipment operations experience in mining, forestry, agriculture, highway transportation, etc.
- Previous airfield operations experience with another airport or onsite aeronautical business
Details Following Hiring:
The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training as you’ll be required to:
- Obtain an Industry Canada Radio License for airport use within 30 days
- Complete all training and evaluation to receive an Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP) within 30 days
- Complete all on-the-job training assigned
- Show initiative in completing training modules related to the position
- Complete winter operations training prior to conducting snow removal
- Show initiative to complete ongoing training to complete tasks in the diverse working environment in order to expand knowledge and expertise
- Maintain all applicable licensing and security clearances required to operate the airport’s equipment, tools, and equipment.
- You will work in North Bay, onsite at the North Bay Jack Garland Airport - YYB.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 7 months
Pay: From $29.53 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week

- Heavy equipment operation: 1 year (required)

- Truck (D/Z): 1 year (preferred)
- English (fluent read and write) (required)
- Air Brake Endorsement (DZ License). (required)
