This role sits within Laurentian Bank.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of quantitative credit risk models used for provision estimation, operational purposes, and stress testing activities. This role ensures that models are developed, validated, and monitored to demonstrate strong performance while prioritizing required updates.
Additionally, this position carries out empirical analyses of business challenges to recommend effective solutions to the organization. As an expert in credit risk quantification, the AVP will provide strategic advice to management on regulatory requirements governing credit risk models and will act as a key resource to enhance risk quantification practices in line with industry best practices.
This role reports directly to the VP, Risk Quantification and Analytics within Credit Risk Management in the Risk & Compliance Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of credit risk quantification models, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and loan loss accounting rules.
- Ensure adherence to model governance policies for all operational, regulatory, IFRS9, and stress testing models.
- Monitor and assess model performance through statistical and empirical testing, including back-testing and scenario analysis, to ensure robustness and reliability.
- Identify and prioritize model changes and updates, ensuring alignment with business and regulatory needs.
- Lead and participate in various large-scale projects and mandates that may significantly impact the Bank’s profitability and operational efficiency.
- Act as a subject matter expert in internal and external committees, representing the Bank with various organizations and stakeholders.
- Partner with business units to develop adequate models that address customer needs and enhance operational efficiency while respecting the risk appetite framework.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current legislation, Bank policies, programs, and procedures, while keeping abreast of market trends and industry best practices.
- Foster a collaborative team environment by managing and developing team members in line with the Bank’s values, policies, and performance management frameworks.
- Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, financial engineering, econometrics, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in credit risk management and quantification.
- 10+ years of experience in a leadership role, with a focus on team development and project delivery.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements, IFRS9, capital adequacy and statistical quantification methodologies.
- Ability to build strong relationships and negotiate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
