Position: Barista
Location: King + Bay - 100 King Street West - PATH
Starting Pay: $16.85 per hour + tips
We're looking for a full-time Barista to join our team at our King + Bay cafe. You must thrive in a customer service-oriented environment and work efficiently amongst a diverse, friendly, and professional team. Our hope is that you have a passion for and interest in all things coffee, and are willing to grow and learn amongst other enthusiasts!
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Making eye contact and smile
- Greet and interact with all customers in a professional and friendly manner
- Able to work well under pressure and maintain a calm and professional demeanor at all times
- Provide customers with immediate service whether in person or via telephone
- Ensure customers and team members are safe at all times
- Offer customers sampling, substitutes or suggestions
- Adhere to company’s dress code
- Respond to all questions, orders and concerns in a professional and friendly manner
PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE
- Prepare beverages while following the steps and quality standards outlined in Pilot’s Barista Certification
- Provide product information to customers regarding ingredients, nutrition, value, storage, cooking etc
- Knowledge of items, special releases
- Sell coffee and retail merchandise by utilizing your knowledge of current coffee offerings and confidently and accurately communicate this to the customer
CAFE SET UP
- Responsible for the opening and closing of the cafes - this includes maintaining the point of sale, ensuring checklist completion, setting the alarm and locking up at the end of the day
- Maintain the functionality and cleanliness of the cafe and continuously anticipate the customers needs
- Responsible for ensuring the quality and freshness of products at all times by checking dates and removing substandard products immediately from coolers/ counters/shelves
- Prepare required product in keeping with Cafe standards
- Perform special tasks as assigned
POLICIES AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES:
- Responsible for complying with all Cafe policies for:
- Proper product preparation
- Proper rotation and storage
- Careful handling of products
- Correct pricing and signage
- Controlling shrink (internal and external)
HEALTH AND FOOD SAFETY STANDARDS
- Responsible for complying with all Cafe policies and standard operating procedures:
- Follow food safety standards
- Follow health and workplace safety standards
- Clean equipment, counter and sanitize work area
- Check temperature of food
EXPERIENCE
- Previous work experience in a customer service environment is required
- Previous work experience as a Barista is preferred
- Previous work experience in a Cafe is preferred
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
