Consultant, Compensation Specialist

OVERVIEW
Reporting to Director of People and Culture, the Compensation Consultant will provide consultant expertise in evaluating Circular Materials (CM) current approach to compensation and throughout the contract will suggest actionable and sustainable changes to improve attraction, motivation and retention, while ensuring fiscal responsibility and efficiency.
Project outcomes include effective market research to recommend rates of pay for new or changed positions which ensure fair compensation for current positions while collaborating with notable stakeholders, recommending pay levels and incentive packages that comply with labour and payroll legislation are key areas of importance.
This is a fully remote contract position, eligible to qualified professionals living anywhere in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, design, recommend and support implementation of compensation programs for various job categories, appropriately aligned to CM’s Canada wide-workforce and industry.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative research to document current and potential pay and incentive levels, factoring in market, industry, location and positional fairness.
  • Analyse internal compensation data to identify potential issues (red/green circle) to ensure equitability.
  • Conduct statistical pay analysis and/or surveys to create benchmarking reports which improve CM’s strategic plans.
  • Recommend appropriate salary and wage systems, which are evidence based and easy to understand and adopt while complying with federal, provincial, local laws and regulations and Pay Equity requirements.
  • Liaise within the department and with Hiring Managers to discuss salary requirements for individualized employees.
  • Partner with Hiring Managers, Human Resource Business Partners and Talent Acquisition on Job Description development that match compensation programs.
  • Give due consideration to CM’s revenue and strategic goals, annual budgets and other unique needs when making recommendations.
  • Utilize advanced tech-skills to maximize effectiveness of available software, or to recommend tools which can advance CM’s Total Rewards programs.
  • Stay abreast of compensation trends and best practices, and legislative requirements.
  • Provide unbiased and professional education and consultation to those seeking compensation advice, appropriate to the situation.
  • Demonstrates impeccable integrity, confidentiality and trustworthiness at all times.
  • Provide accurate and timely communication of compensation related changes to Payroll.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Post secondary educated in human resource management, business, finance or a related field, with a combination of equivalent experiences is required.
  • Post graduate certificate in Total Rewards, Compensation & Benefits or Payroll is preferred.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designated is an asset.
Experience
  • 10+ years of experience as a compensation specialist or consultant.
  • Extensive practice and knowledge of payroll procedures and legislative requirements, across multiple provinces and/or territories, including Ontario.
  • Experience working in a large and growing, matrixed and complex organisation, flawlessly navigating through confidential and sensitive situations and data.
  • Highly skilled in the use of payroll, HRIS or applicable software or programs, including expert skills in the full use of Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary market statistics and pay scales, can demonstrate innovation through fact-based evidence.
  • Outstanding analytical and qualitative abilities.
  • Advanced reasoning and math skills.
  • Highly organized with a keen eye to detail.
  • Proven strength in all forms of communication.
  • Accountable and able to work alone or as part of team.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working Hours
  • Estimated 20 to 24 hours per week, covering a 6-month project.
Remote and/or Field Work
  • Remote.
Travel
  • Not required.
