JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Custodian
LOCATION: Maintenance Building
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Deputy CAO
HOURS of WORK: 15 – 25 Hours a Week
SALARY: $20 - $23 hourly
Position Summary
K’ómoks First Nation’s employees embrace the vision, mission and will demonstrate K’ómoks’ core values in their daily work. They will move forward to support K’ómoks members in exercising their rights and title, while respecting their historic connection to K’ómoks lands and resources and to one another.
The purpose of this position is to ensure that the workplace is clean and maintained regularly to allow for the effective running of K’ómoks operations in a safe and clean manner. This role will ensure the overall regular cleanliness and maintenance of K’ómoks offices and buildings.
Responsibilities:
· Ensuring restrooms are cleaned, sanitized, and stocked daily
· Ensuring kitchens/coffee areas are kept clean
· Vacuuming, sweeping, washing, waxing, and stripping of floors as needed
· Dusting, polishing office desks, reception area, and meeting rooms
· Loading and unloading the dishwasher
· Keeping fridges (inside) and garbage receptacles clean
· Wiping disinfecting all tables in the boardroom, council chambers, and common areas regularly
· Removing garbage and recycling to appropriate locations
· Storing all products in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act
· Monitoring building security by performing such tasks such as arming and disarming security system as necessary, locking doors after operating hours, and checking electrical appliances to ensure that hazards are not created
· Lifting and moving office furniture, equipment, and supplies
· Notifying the Maintenance Manager concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
· Requisitioning supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
· Setting up, arranging, and removing decorations, tables, and chairs to prepare facilities for events such as meetings, banquets, etc.
· Setting up and cleaning meeting rooms including the removal and washing of dishes, cups, cutlery, garbage/recycling, meeting papers, and items left behind after each meeting
· Community centric, with the ability to work in a team environment
· Strong planning and time management skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish working relationships with staff, Council, and a variety of governments, groups, knowledge keepers and/or Elders, and other stakeholders
· Ability to display tact, respect, and diplomacy
· Sound judgment and decision-making
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Cultural sensitivity and awareness withthorough knowledge of the current First Nations governance landscape in BC and knowledge of relevant socio-historical events relevant to First Nations in Canada
· Computer literate in Microsoft Office and proficient with Excel and Word.
Education and Experience
· 1+ years of experience in a similar role is preferred
· WHMIS Certification is required
· Experience working in and with the Indigenous community preferred.
· Education level or experience required for position

· Perform moderately heavy physical labour involving the full range of body movements including reaching, bending, grasping, climbing, and lifting
· Must be able to stand, crouch, kneel and/or sit for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and work from elevation, and walk on varied terrain
· Regularly perform repetitive tasks
· Willing to participate in personal and professional development
