Exam Invigilator

An Exam Invigilator is responsible for maintaining a secure and conducive environment during examinations to ensure fairness and integrity in the assessment process. This role involves supervising and monitoring candidates as they complete their exams, enforcing exam regulations, and providing assistance when needed. The Exam Invigilator is an integral part of our department in supporting faculty and students during examinations. The work can be physically demanding sometimes there is substantial walking and standing for extended periods in order to maintain visual and listening access to all examinees, but the work is crucial in supporting our university community
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-exam responsibilities: set up exam venue with the necessary facilities for students, verify students’ identity and eligibility to write exams, maintain order and provide clear instructions to students regarding exam procedures and regulations, ensure students are seated as needed and keep exam materials securely, etc.
2. Exam Administration: Provide students with the necessary exam materials, monitor students during exams to maintain integrity, report any irregularities during exams, handle emergency situations and escalate to the site facilitator/course instructor when needed.
3. Post-Exam responsibilities: collect and organize exam materials collected, securely handle and store completed exams for return to course instructors, and assist in packing up or closing down exam venues.
Qualifications:
Skill Profile:
1. Graduated from high school and is not a current Year 1 – 4 undergraduate student of the University.
2. Strong communication skills to convey instructions clearly and confidently. Patient and flexible as some accommodated examinees may have compromised ability to speak clearly or to comprehend oral conversations. Proctors must have the ability, patience and flexibility to cover communication barriers encountered.
3. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus for extended periods.
4. Ability to follow instructions precisely and enforce rules consistently. Integrity and a strong sense of ethics to ensure a fair and unbiased testing environment.
5. Basic computer literacy for tasks such as setting up equipment, monitoring time and reporting incidents digitally.
