Position overview:

Paragon is looking for a highly motivated individual for a patrol position at Seneca Newnham Campus. The primary purpose of a Seneca Security Guard is to ensure that the interior of the facility is patrolled regularly throughout the shift to deter any hazards, risks and or issues that may arise.
The hours for this position are continental rotating (0700-1900/1900-0700) and requires you to be available to work both day and night shifts. The pay rate for the position starts at $18.00/HR and is based on a leveling system.
Role and Responsibilities:

• Facilitate and foster an environment that is inducive to learning through security initiatives and building meaningful relationships with community members and key stakeholders.
• Educate and enforce all College rules and policies.
• Provide excellent customer service to community members and assist with wayfinding and general inquiries.
• Conduct interior and exterior patrols checking for facility deficiencies, hazardous issues and suspicious activities.
• Perform unlock and lock-up rounds and other access control functions.
• Respond to a wide array of incidents on campus such as but not limited to fire alarms, medicals, disturbances, criminal activity, elevator entrapments, floods and leaks, et cetera.
• Investigate and write detailed and informative reports on all incidents, obtain statements and information and maintain accurate records in memo books.
• Provide first aid and CPR and use the AED when necessary to preserve life.
• Ensure adequate stocking of first aid supplies.
• Complete scheduled audits and tests of various security systems such as keysets, maglocks, emergency phones, panic alarms, interior and exterior lighting, et cetera.
• Assist with lost and found and locker storage requests.
• Escalate major incidents to Shift Supervisors upon discovery.
• Assist with the training of new security personnel.
• Maintain training certifications on an annual basis or as required.
• Be up to date with security and College policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by College Administrators or Paragon Management.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be available to work full time, rotational day and night shifts.
• Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence.
• Ontario G Class Driver’s Licence preferred.
• Standard First Aid & CPR Level C.
• Physically fit to patrol and respond to various emergencies on campus.
• Police Foundations or related law enforcement post-secondary program graduates preferred.
• 1 year of security experience in post-secondary, related security experience or security training/formal education.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer literacy (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and acceptable typing skills.
• Working knowledge of Provincial Offences Act, Criminal Code of Canada, fire prevention, crowd management techniques, crime scene preservation and basic investigative techniques.
