Production Supervisor, Midnight Shift

KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat resistant alloys and high nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology.
Key Function: Responsible to supervise the efforts of staff and initiatives for elements related to production for Kubota Materials Canada Corporation during the Midnight Shift; 11 PM - 7 AM, Sunday - Thursday.
Duties:
1. Ensure a safe environment for staff and visitors; investigate, report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as required in the event of incident.
2. Ensure all employees are working to the predetermined production control schedule or department work instructions.
3. Reallocating work resources as necessary to maintain production of critical items.
4. Ensuring all scheduled personnel are present and remain at their designated work stations.
5. Monitor attendance of staff and flag concerns to Human Resources
6. Liaise with Human Resources with identified/approved recruitment needs
7. Provide support on retrieval of needed documentation on the shop floor.
8. Determine and align improvement projects with organizational objectives; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
9. Teach, coach and lead staff in to perform duties within established quality standards
10. Participate in education and training specific to current standards and guidelines.
11. Represent the department or program in meetings as required.
12. Assume fiscal accountability of the departmental operation according to approved budget
13. Guide, motivate, monitor and supervise hourly employee, evaluate performance and make recommendations on disciplinary action if required.
14. Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience:.
· Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university
· Minimum 5 years experience in a hands-on role in a manufacturing facility
· Minimum 2 years experience leading staff or sub-contractors in a production environment
· Commitment to lean methodology practices for process improvement
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints
· Experience leading in a unionized environment preferred
· Training courses in related Health and Safety
· First Aid & CPR certificates, or willingness to obtain
· Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
· Strong communication skills, including conflict management of staff
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Ability to identify hazards within the plant
2. Ability to react calmly to emergency situations.
3. Clear knowledge of the OHSA and how it applies to the positon.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with Union officials and clearly document incidents requiring their involvement
5. Ability to coach, advise and teach others using the principles of adult learning.
6. Training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
7. Ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
8. Knowledge of relevant legislation and principles of management, conflict management and resolution, system needs analysis and organizational assessment.
9. Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with customers, suppliers and employees.
10. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, and Microsoft Office Suite (i.e Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
11. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
12. Ability to monitor and report on budgets.
