Contract:

Start Date: November 1, 2024
End Date: January 12, 2025
What you will do:

The following duties are typical for this role. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Ensuring all riders must be at 42 inches and up to ride alone, children under that height must be accompanied by an adult.
• Ensuring there are adults supervising children less than 42 inches tall must stand/walk next to the animal/car the child is riding and hold the child.

Monitoring ride rules such as:

• Only one rider per animal or recommended riders in each train car is allowed.
• Riders must remain seated until the carousel/train comes to a full stop.
• No side saddle riding allowed on carousel animals.
• No food or drink allowed on the carousel or train.
• Reviewing Carousel Guide Booklet for further information and Emergency Procedures.
• Being aware of all emergency/necessary contacts.
• Never leaving the Carousel or train unattended.
• Not deviating from the operating procedures that will be provided by a trainer or team lead.
• Reporting any unusual activities to a team lead immediately.
• Being mindful of any strange noise develops while the ride is in motion and shutting the ride down and informing a team lead of the problem.

What you will bring:

• Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
• Mature and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Outgoing and comfortable talking to the public.
• Creative and problem-solving approach
• Conflict resolution skills and experience

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required
• Capable of lifting up to 40lbs; stacking wagons 3 high
• Work outdoors, even in inclement weather
• Standing during whole shift

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The organization follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
