Seismic Geotechnical Engineer
Toronto, North Vancouver
Regular, Full-Time

Do you want to join one of the leading engineering consulting companies, creating value for customers, people, and societies worldwide? Can you add to our growth with your proven leadership skills and expertise in regional and international underground and tunnel projects? Then this could be the next step in your career!
Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow
As the Seismic Geotechnical Engineer, you will have an important role in performing geotechnical seismic engineering analysis, design, and technical reports and drawings for different geotechnical structures including tunnels and other underground structures, retaining walls, bridge foundations, marine structures, and tunnel structures. In this role, you will be responsible for working with multidisciplinary teams and effective management and delivery of your tasks in terms of budget, quality, and timelines.

Initially, this position is to specifically support COWI’s role for the Owner’s Engineer for the Immersed Tube Tunnel portion of the new Fraser River Tunnel Project (FRTP). The FRTP project, which will replace the existing Massey Tunnel between Richmond and Delta, near Vancouver, BC., is being delivered through a Progressive Design-Build procurement.
Your position will be based in either COWI’s Toronto office (with our mass transit group) or in our North Vancouver office (near where the project is executed).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
  • Perform seismic geotechnical analysis for heavy civil structures and assessment of soil-structure interactions, including liquefaction assessments.
  • Perform engineering analysis and design of geotechnical structures including foundations, retaining walls and other underground structures in different ground conditions including soft soils and rock
  • Interpret, organize and communicate outputs from seismic geotechnical analyses to structural design teams.
  • Produce project documentation such as technical memoranda and geotechnical design reports for seismic analyses outputs.
  • Provide input in digital delivery and information management of various projects from conception through to completion
Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.
The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners, or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will have:
  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Rock Mechanics
  • A registered Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in Ontario or British Columbia (or ability to acquire within one year of start date)
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working on project design in carrying out seismic analysis and design of foundations and underground structures in the heavy civil industry
  • Must know how to use the software FLAC/FLAC3D and Plaxis 2D/3D
  • Experience and familiarity with national and regional codes (North America, including Canada and British Columbia)
