We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on problem solver to work in a welding and fabrication role as part of our growing team. Our ideal candidate will be accustomed to working in fabrication and assembly settings. They will be able to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and be passionate about doing so in a clean and organized manner. The cleanliness of our facility is paramount to the quality of our products. While it will continue to be a team effort, our ideal candidate can take ownership of their work and delegate when appropriate. This role is integral to our success as we commercialize our core product. The ideal person for this role is enthusiastic to step into this position and grow with us.
What Will You Do
Working closely with our Machine shop lead, you will have the opportunity to build some of the most advanced scientific equipment in the world. We expect you to ask questions, learn, be open to growth, and attend technical training as required. Some of your core duties will include:
- Weld aluminum assemblies together using TIG including but not limited to vacuum cans and dump tanks. Welding of these assemblies has to be absolutely perfect as the helium these assemblies hold have a lot of energy and can escape through a contact arc path.
- Welding stainless assemblies together using Laser welding processes including but not limited to microlaser assemblies, pipe, tubing, flanges and other assemblies as required.
- Perform soft and hard soldering as required
- Roll and weld aluminum and copper shields
- Polish, clean, and gold plate assemblies.
- Experience with helium leak tight vacuum chambers is an asset
- Take measurements using a tape measure, caliper, and micrometer.
- Be primarily responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the clean assembly bay.
- Complete shop duties such as setup, organization, inventory, etc.
- Use google workspace to complete administrative tasks including populating product bill of materials based on your as-built product.
- Fabricate small process components using cutting, shaping, soldering, brazing, and fastening.
- Read manufacturer’s manuals, drawings, and quality control specifications for assembly procedures.
- Deep experience and understanding of welding both Aluminum and Stainless Steel.
- Laser welding and micro-laser welding experience would be considered an asset but not required
- Welding ticket would be considered an asset but is by no means a requirement.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and specifications
- Ability to inspect welds for quality and compliance with safety standards..
- Excellent time-management and task-prioritization.
- Documentation skills to create internal and external documentation relating to your work.
- Ability to perform daily planning and organizational practices while working with a high-degree of independence and integrating cohesively within the team.
- Ability to think critically, think analytically, multitask, prioritize duties, and quickly assume new tasks as required.
- Motivation and work ethic to stay engaged in a fast paced, creative problem-solving environment.
- Willingness to do whatever is in front of you even if it is not in your job description.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and challenges with a collaborative attitude.

- Willingness to take on unfamiliar tasks and to help the team learn what you figure out.
- Openness to respectfully take guidance and training from the Assembly Lead, Machinist, and Physicists.
- A sense of ownership for the shop space that you are working in.
- Experience using hand and power tools including drivers, wrenches, wire strippers, soldering irons, tube benders and slip rolls.
- Familiarity with various types of fasteners, wiring, materials, and chemicals.
- Ability to take accurate dimensional measurements using a variety of measuring tools.
- Entry-level fabrication and machining skills
- Excellent work history and solid references.
- Ability to lift 30 kg, work overhead and work in tight spaces inside the control cabinet.
- A valid driver's license.
