Technical Support Engineer - Performance

OVERVIEW
We are partnering with a software as a service (Saa S) platform client that helps companies automate business processes, streamline workflows, and improve service delivery to hire a Performance Support Engineer.
  • Duration: 12-month contract with potential for permanent conversion
  • Compensation: $1,800 to $2,100 monthly salary (depending on qualifications and experience)
  • Location: America Free Zone, San Jose, Costa Rica (the first 3 months of onboarding and training will be fully onsite. After 3 months, hybrid with 3 days in office weekly).
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Performance Support Engineer will serve as the final escalation point for the Client's Technical Support team, specializing in resolving complex issues related to performance and instance availability. This customer-facing role demands a candidate with both strong technical and interpersonal skills, capable of quickly understanding the Client's platform and effectively communicating solutions. The ideal candidate will be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure timely resolution of critical issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successfully demonstrate skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues by systematically identifying the root cause, analyzing potential solutions, and implementing effective fixes.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g. My SQL, Oracle)
  • Experience in one (or more) scripting languages: Java Script, Python, Perl, Unix Shell, Windows Shell)
  • Skilled in utilizing shell scripting and advanced CLI commands to automate workflows and effectively manage and analyze data within a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Advanced Unix/Linux experience
  • Understanding of basic networking and system administration
  • Working knowledge of the components in a web applications stack.
  • High level understanding of resource management of machines (CPU, memory, etc.)
  • Possess strong analytical skills in interpreting JVM and GC logs to identify performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and other issues impacting application stability and efficiency
  • Proven ability to debug code by identifying and resolving syntax errors, logic flaws, and performance bottlenecks. This includes analyzing code, testing functionality, and implementing corrections to ensure code accuracy and efficiency
  • Experience diagnosing performance degradation (e.g. explain plans, database tuning)
  • Familiarity with Splunk is highly preferred
  • Experience working well in a team environment while also being able to work productively while unsupervised
  • Strong personal commitment to quality and customer service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate solutions to complex technical problems
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Languages: Advanced proficiency in speaking, reading and writing in Spanish and English (Portuguese is highly preferred)
