The purpose of this role is to support one of our strategic objectives which is to position V.Group at the forefront of the decarbonization agenda in shipping. V.Group’s future role as a true partner of blue-chip shipping firms requires our leadership also in the environmental and sustainability arena.
Today, and increasingly in the future, we will be relied upon to lead the way towards lowering carbon emissions through adoption of pioneering and transitionary fuels, new technologies, digital practices, improving compliance and reporting standards etc. Moreover, while today command of ESG is a factor of differentiation, tomorrow it will become table stakes for commercial relevance with shipping clients, just as safety is today.
This important role is part of the ESG & Sustainability team, reporting to the Group Director of Sustainability and Decarbonization, and seconded 67% to V.Group’s strategic partner Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (ZCS).
- Consolidate our efforts to extract value from ZCS by leveraging our relationship with them by building a deep understanding of the Centre’s activities and initiatives including liaising with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other key stakeholders based at and connected to the Centre
- Monitor the projects and workstreams required to serve our ZCS partnership commitments including ensuring delivery of set targets
- Assist V.ERDE on strengthening internal knowledge on key aspects of decarbonization such as Alternative fuels, Energy Efficiency Measures and Solutions, and the impact of upcoming regulatory changes
- Collaborate with the V.Group Commercial team to harvest new commercial opportunities and offerings under the ESG banner including assessing commercial links to clients in terms of a ‘decarbonization’ product bundle
- Support the positioning of the ESG & Sustainability team as a bridge and advisor to the HSSEQ function in relation to ZCS activities and best practices
- Implement the projects and workstreams required to build and embed the ESG & Sustainability department internally across V.Group including the development of a sustainability framework with company-wide delivery under the ESG banner
- Manage the systems work required to scope and build the ESG & Sustainability Scorecard within Ship Sure including ensuring the necessary reporting and data harvesting are in place
- Identify the ESG & Sustainability related governance work by contributing to and coordinating the Materiality study - Taskforce for Climate Related Financial Disclosure including risk identification and prioritisation
- A strong understanding of Maritime Environmental Regulatory Framework
- Technical background including knowledge and experience in the areas of HSSEQ and Operations.
- Ability to build strong and lasting operational and commercial relationships
- Excellent planning, organisational and analytical skills
- Proactive, self-motivated with a flexible attitude
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all organisational levels
- Ability to collaborate with peers and senior leaders across business and influence without authority
- Computer literate with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
