Job Title: Regional Communications Officer

Duration: 11 months, renewable

Location: MENA and East Europe Regional Bureau
-
Develop and Implement Communications Strategy: Create a comprehensive regional communications strategy aligned with WFP's global objectives to highlight regional emergency response.
-
Ensure Timely Messaging: Produce accurate and timely messaging that supports WFP's objectives.
-
Crisis Communication Leadership: Lead the development and dissemination of communication materials during emergencies, including press releases, media briefings, and other products that inform internal and external audiences about WFP’s response and needs.

Content Creation: Produce high-quality content, such as articles, social media posts, and reports, showcasing WFP's emergency response initiatives and success stories. Collaborate with graphic designers and photographers to create compelling visual content.

Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and international media outlets, coordinating media visits to ensure effective coverage of emergency operations.

Support Country Offices: Provide guidance and support to Country Offices (COs) in crisis-affected areas on their communication plans, narrative development, and media engagement to ensure consistent messaging. This includes frequent travel to conflict or disaster-affected areas.

Monitor and Analyze Media Coverage: Track media coverage and public engagement regarding WFP's emergency operations, providing analysis and reports to regional management on communication impact and areas for improvement.

Training and Capacity Building: Conduct training sessions for regional and country office staff on communication best practices, particularly during emergencies, to ensure high-quality communication efforts.

Special Projects Coordination: Undertake or coordinate special communications projects, such as video stories and photography assignments, to effectively showcase WFP’s work and engage audiences.

Campaign Planning: Lead editorial and campaign planning for the region, ensuring communications initiatives align with key moments and maximize impact for WFP’s mission and activities.

Maintain Visibility: Implement corporate communications strategies to enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation in the region, supporting fundraising efforts.
-
Design Effective Communication Products: Ensure the effective design and delivery of communications products that convey desired messages to targeted audiences.
-
Team Leadership: Lead a team of Communications Officers across the region, developing work plans, setting objectives, and facilitating professional development for high performance.
-
Advanced Degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or any other relevant field, or First Degree with additional years of relevant work experience.
-
5 years of postgraduate professional work experience in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or any other relevant field.
