About you and this role

We are looking for Process Automation Engineer in Schkopau, Germany. As Process Automation Engineer you will be Applying technical knowledge by providing automation solutions for the chemical process equipment involved, work process, unit operations, operating condition or process technology improvements. At this experience level, supports intermediate projects, or portions of the process automation design within larger capital projects. Your role will require conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within a job discipline. Your role combines Process automation and Process Safety aspects.

Responsibilities

Facilitates the development and change process of process automation code for Energy & Environmental assets. Ensure process control and operating conditions of Energy/Environmental assets are optimized to be most effective and reliable.
Provide technical assistance for the Energy/Environmental Operations assets. Identifies and develops both technology and work process enhancements which deliver value.
Works closely with the operations team leveraging their problem-solving skills and technical expertise. Elevates and appropriately applies knowledge of the technology referencing historical data and conferring with the Technology Center or other subject matter experts (SMEs).
Identifies technical problems both within designs and existing operations. Appropriately engages the business and functional technology center and the subject matter expert network to resolve. Conducts daily review of logbook to better understand the plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities.
Conduct reviews of alarms to identify improvements eliminating nuisance alarms. Responds urgently to plant issues and emergencies.
Network with other engineers onsite and within the global businesses to leverage knowledge on plant. Supports future process improvements and product development/solution roadmap.
Work with PSTL’s and business Technology Center to provide Process Safety support for the facility, including guidance on implementation of Loss Prevention Principles (LPP’s) and compliance with local regulations. Perform Process Safety reviews on MOC’s for the facility, escalating to a PSTL for further review where required.
Communication focal point (both directions) for the Process Safety related knowledge and issues at the facility. Facilitate gap assessments against Dow mandatory requirements and local standards, and work with plant leadership to gain resources to close identified gaps.
Participate in, and help prepare for, Root Cause Investigations (RCIs), Reactive Chemical Process Hazard Analysis (RCPHA), Management of Change reviews, and other Process Safety requirements as needed. Plant resource for process safety self assessments, EHS audits, and LOPA revalidations
Maintains the process safety documentation for the facility (RC/PHA, LOPA, Dow GEP, LPP gap assessment, SSIS, relief design calculations, HAC, etc.) Works with Maintenance to review instrumented protective system (SIS, BPCS, CI) test, inspection, and calibration results and follow up as needed.
Assist in developing plant, business, and site process safety goals. Actively engage in geographic and / or Business Process Safety Focal point networks and communication meetings to share best practices and Learning Experience Reports
Supports the development and delivery of Process Safety training in the facility. Ensures Process Safety Near Misses (PSNM’s) and Process Safety and Containment Events (PSCE’s) are investigated and reported using the required reporting tools.

Qualifications

A Bachelor or Master Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Material Science / Metallurgical Engineer.
Less than 3 years of professional working experience
Good working knowledge of English and German.
