The newly founded Faculty of Computer Science (www.informatik.rub.de)unites all ongoing computer science activities at RUB in aninterdisciplinary manner. The research and teaching area of IT security, inwhich our university has been a leader in Europe for over 20 years, playsa central role in the new Faculty. This is also reflected in the Cluster of Excellence CASA (www.casa.rub.de), which is funded as part of the Federal Government's Excellence Initiative, in which over 100 researchersdevelop effective measures against cyberattacks.

The members of Prof. Flavio’s Chair conduct research and teaching in various areas of IT security. The Chair offers various courses in the Master’s degree program and participates in third-party-founded projects.
This international and dynamic team also cooperates with several university and non-university institutions (e.g., the Max Planck Institute).

Your tasks:

• The main objective of this position is to develop novel techniques for the automated detection of semantic bugs in the engines of interpreted programming languages, such as Python's PEP and Java Script's V8. This research aims to identify logic-related errors that impact program correctness or security, improving the reliability and security of language interpreters.

Your profile:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
  
• Background in the areas of IT security and privacy, and system security. Practical experience with fuzzing tools and interpreters is recommended.
  
• Experience in software development including experience with programming languages, such as Python, C/C++, Java Script, and tools such as Fuzzilli, AFL, and AFL++ is a plus.
  
• (Optional) Experience in Capture-the-Flag (CTF), ethical hacking, and active presence in security conferences is considered positive.
