We are now opening a position for up to 4 years

Postdoctoral | Research Scientist (W-0029 | all genders)

The successful applicants will join a team of scientists implementing an ice-sheet model into the next generation km-scale Earth-system model ICON with the aim of better understanding atmosphere-ocean-ice sheet interactions that contribute to present-day sea-level rise and high-latitude climate change. The research is part of Terra DT, a project within the European Commission’s Horizon Europe research infrastructure programme. Terra DT aims at improving the descriptions of Earth system components in the Destination Earth (Destin E) climate models. The positions include coupling of an ice-sheet with ICON, and conducting and analyzing simulations with the model at different stages of the model development.

YOUR PROFILE

• Ph D degree in glaciology
• Experience in the development and application of coupled ice-sheet climate models
• Excellent knowledge of ice-sheet physics
• Excellent programming skills in Fortran and Python
• Track record of excellent research as documented by scientific publications, presentations and personal references
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work autonomously

EMPLOYEEMENT CONDITIONS

• The position is to start as early as possible in the year 2025
• Payment will be in accordance with German public service positions depending on qualification (E14 TVöD), including extensive social security plans
