The Quantum Biology and Computational Physics Group (Department of Physics) at the University of Oldenburg offers one

Postdoctoral researcher-position (m/f/d)
(TV-L E13 / 50%)
to be filled until 30.09.2025 at the earliest possible date. The position is closely related to the finalization of the research project ‘Quantum Origins of Magnetic Sensing’ funded by the Volkswagen Foundation.
The overall aim of the project is to develop the concepts and tools that would allow taking advantage of digitalization to investigate light-matter interaction in nanomaterials using state-of-the-art theoretical methods. The specific goals include design of a user-friendly visualization tools to access the quantum world and facilitate knowledge transfer also beyond the academic/scientific community. The to-be-developed interface is seen as a web-based cloud interface for multi-scale computational workflows of quantum calculations that will be used to visualize the motion of charges in nanomaterials and biological systems featuring electron transfer dynamics on different time scales
The requirement for employment is that the applicant should have an academic university degree (e.g. Master’s), a Ph D in Physics or Chemistry and a strong interest in basic research in a collaborative research environment. We require excellent mastering of English reading and writing. The successful candidate must have a solid background in programming and have expertise in at least three of the following topics:
(1) Many-body perturbation theory,
(2) Density functional theory,
(3) QM/MM simulations,
(4) Classical molecular dynamics,
(5) Charge transfer dynamics.
Supercomputing experience, Linux administration is considered an advantage.
Our group is located at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, and is part of several collaborative centres of excellence including the SFB 1372 “Magnetoreception and navigation in vertebrates: from biophysics to brain and behaviour”. These collaborations will give you access to a very wide range of superb modern equipment, techniques and expertise.
