At the Faculty of Medicine, Department for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Cognitive Neuropsychiatry Lab Prof. Dr. Igor Nenadić, a position is available as a

Research assistant (Post Doc or doctoral student)

as part of the third-party funded EU Era Net Neuron project Resil Net (“Resilience and vulnerability: from neural circuits to networks”). The position is offered for a period of 3 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime or part-time (50 - 100 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

Resil Net is an international network in which scientists from psychiatry/medicine, psychology, computer science and mental health sciences conduct research on the topic of resilience to mental illness. The focus is on multidisciplinary analysis of different levels of resilience on the psychological, clinical, brain-functional/structural and genetic level, which includes methods of MR imaging as well as machine learning-based approaches for the evaluation of large data sets of this multi-national consortium. In addition to existing cohorts of individuals with mental illnesses (depression, schizophrenia, autism, etc.), the network also examines individuals with traumatic experiences (war refugees, natural disasters) and diseases such as Covid in order to analyze clinical and subclinical trajectories after extreme stress with regard to biological and psychological predictors of resilience. This international and interdisciplinary network is coordinated by the Marburg working group, with partners in Australia, Italy, Spain, Israel and Turkey.

Tasks:
  • collaboration in the preparation of scientific publications
  • scientific services in research
  • data analysis of structural and functional MRI (esp. multi-modal and network approaches)
  • recruitment and examination of study participants for MRI
  • contributing to pioneering scientific projects on the basics of resilience to mental illness within a network of international experts
The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period) or to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation of the contract complies to § 2, 1 Wiss Zeit VG.

Profile:
  • completed scientific university degree (diploma, master, state examination or comparable) in psychology, medicine, neuroscience, applied computer science or a related field
  • for the Post Doc-position: a completed doctorate (Ph D or other)
  • previous experience in the analysis of functional and/or structural MRI data is desirable
  • interest in psychiatric / psychological / neuroscience research
  • sound training in scientific, especially quantitative methods; interest in further developing your own methodological skills, especially in the use of network models
  • interest in interdisciplinary cooperation and collaboration in a large research network with its various support structures and in integrative research that brings together neuroscience and psychiatry/psychology
  • German and English language skills and good communication skills
  • interest and previous experience in the supervision of junior researchers
Willingness to pursue one’s own scientific qualification is expected.

We offer:
  • working in an interdisciplinary and international team on cutting-edge topics
  • gaining experience in an exciting translational research project with clinical relevance
  • possibility of mobile working, flexible working hours, free Hessen public transport ticket
