Saint-Gobain Tape Solutions Biolink is searching for a V.I.E. Research Engineer to join our R&D Team at our adhesive tape production facility in Waakirchen.
This site specializes in high performance acrylic adhesive solutions produced using a sustainable solventless manufacturing method. These specialized adhesives are used in challenging aerospace, automotive, industrial, construction, and consumer applications where traditional adhesives fail. The team works closely with the commercial and operations groups to develop new products, solve customer challenges and improve our industrial processes.
In this context, and under the direction of a senior researcher, you will be expected to design and execute experiments, perform careful testing of adhesive performance, analyze results, and present the findings in both written and oral formats.
The main role
As a V.I.E, you will have the following tasks:

Conducting hands-on experiments formulating solvent-free pressure-sensitive adhesives.
Working with engineers on our pilot production tools to evaluate new concepts.
Testing adhesive tape performance using a variety of specialized equipment and software.
Conducting application-related tests in close coordination with customers.
Supporting project management in the supervision of production trials.
Testing new raw materials for their suitability in our formulations.
Using basic statistics and software tools to interpret data.
Documenting and presenting work results to local and global teams.
Supporting others in the R&D team and executing commercial and manufacturing support requests.

A plus for this role

This role is a mix of laboratory and computer works, which means home office once per week is possible.

Ce poste est-il fait pour vous ?
Our ideal V.I.E must have the following criteria to join us:

Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical or process engineering, or materials science.
Familiarity with a chemistry lab setting and ability to work safely with chemicals.
Attention to detail when preparing samples for testing and conducting sample characterization.
Ability to work independently on several topics simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills in English (both written and oral) to work with people of different backgrounds (e.g., manufacturing, research, engineering, marketing, and operations).
A prior experience with polymeric materials or processing would be a plus.
An experience with pressure sensitive adhesive formulation, processing, or characterization would be a plus.
English is the main working language, but German basics are very welcome!

The Waakirchen R&D team works closely with the commercial and operations groups to develop new products, solve customer challenges and improve our industrial processes.
Our local R&D team consists of 5 highly experienced researchers and is an integral part of our adhesives systems R&D group that includes our tapes manufacturing sites and R&D centers globally.
Every morning, short meetings are held at the site to discuss the day's activities, and once a week the team has a more in-depth discussion of project progress. At a global level, a biweekly virtual meeting is held to connect the local teams with discussions and presentations of selected projects. An overarching R&D review is held three times a year to update management on key projects. The local team is mainly responsible for the realization of projects in close cooperation with customers and sales.
