1. Introduction

Saint Too Bloom Academy is a new secondary school focused on innovation and entrepreneurship education. Designed from the ground up by passionate educators, engineers, and entrepreneurs, we aim to establish ourselves as one of the leading K-12 institutions in Hong Kong, the China Greater Bay Area (GBA), and Asia. While the world faces many ongoing challenges, we are excited at the prospect of reimagining what education could be – especially within our Chinese context – and we invite you to join us in our efforts to innovate to prepare students for the challenges that lie ahead.

After the successful opening of our primary school, Bloom KKCA Academy (www.bloom.edu.hk) in 2021, we look forward to the opening of our secondary program in August 2024. In preparation, we have been running pilot programs since 2018, which have served as incubation spaces for our school design and integrating innovation in our curriculum and unique programs. We have been preparing our senior cohorts for their A Levels and IGCSEs, while our junior cohorts are following our school-based and Key Stage 3 curriculum.

We are seeking qualified and experienced teachers to join the effort to launch the new secondary program in August 2024. Because founding teachers have a strong effect on the development of school culture, we will be placing a high premium on individuals who possess the following characteristics:

All trends point to a future in which AI will replace many current jobs, and a future in which humans may become liberated to pursue their creative dreams. This requires us to begin moving away from a teacher-led, exam-based, subject-siloed secondary curriculum that merely produces demonstrations of knowledge mastery. We believe that education has to change now in order to prepare our young people for a vastly different world of higher education and work than that which we are currently familiar with.

2. Position Overview

To work in the IELP (Intensive English Language Programme) classroom to assist the teaching and learning of students with a low to no English language proficiency (A0/A1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
To work with low ability groups of IELP students within the mainstream in order to promote their inclusion and to provide support for teaching and personalised learning
Bi-lingual Mandarin/Engish
To support the IELP after school provision
To work as port of the Learning Support Team (IELP)

3. Key Responsibilities

Support for Learning and Teaching
Support students’ learning of English as an additional language, tailoring support to match the learner’s individual needs
Support students to become independent, co-operative and collaborative learners
Contribute to assessing students’ progress and support them in reviewing their own learning
Identify and remove barriers to students’ learning
Work alongside the IELP teaching team to plan effective and progressive IELP lessons
Regularly collect data to track student progression
Use data to guide teaching practice
Develop interesting and challenging lessons that foster a love of language learning

Meeting the student’s/students’ additional needs
Support the learning and promote the emotional well-being of IELP students
Contribute to the management of IELP students’ behaviour
Support students with IELP to access extended school activities

Standards and Quality Assurance
Support the aims and ethos of the School and IELP mainstream classes by behaviours which display concern for the student/students as a whole person, tact, discretion, confidentiality and the willingness to work as a member of a team
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
Work collaboratively with other teachers
Attend team and staff meetings as requested
Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by your supervisor or Head of School

4. Person Specification

Bachelor’s degree
Native fluency in English
At least 3-4 years experience in a similar role
Experience in teaching EAL students who are new to the language
Preferably qualification in teaching English as a second or additional language ie TESL, TESOL. TEFL etc
Teaching certificate, PGCE, or similar is preferred
Demonstrated academic excellence
Satisfactory criminal background check
