Seed Production Research Associate

Job purpose:

Seed Production Research Associates are responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Seed Production team, with a focus on efficient resource planning, farm management, safety protocols, and quality assurance initiatives. The Associate will manage nursery activities, including field preparation and planting, to ensure optimal seed quality and operational excellence. This role also involves active collaboration with both regional and global stakeholders to ensure consistent seed production quality and the integration of innovative technologies to enhance production processes. Performance and milestones will be evaluated within 90-day cycles to ensure continuous improvement and alignment.

What you do:

• Operate and maintain laboratory research equipment such as seed counters, seed treaters, and shellers (single ear and bulk)
• Support farm operational planning and execution of strategies to enhance field activities, including field selection and measurements
• Manage in-season and short to mid-term planning for seed production and packaging operations
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and participate in various ongoing projects aimed at optimizing processes
• Collaborate with regional Seed Production HUB teams to ensure high-quality seed production and timely delivery to all stakeholders
• Engage with EMEA and Global Breeding teams to execute initiatives and align with global strategies
• Ensure accurate and timely data collection for farm operations, maintaining proper records for compliance and reporting purposes
• Innovate methods to enhance nursery quality and data collection practices
• Utilize software and IT tools to manage field operations and integrate new systems into the nursery program
• Supervise and train field technicians, including onboarding new seasonal employees
• Lead continuous improvement and strategic initiatives that transform row crop plant breeding research through new technologies, data analytics, and program management
• Oversee farm-related activities such as field preparation, irrigation, planting, harvesting, and maintenance as needed
• Manage supplies, stock, and supplier communications to ensure timely availability of resources
• Ensure compliance with ESH/HSE rules, monitoring and executing daily operational tasks
• Understand the objectives of the area and drive consistent improvement to achieve these goals
• Identify and report potential risks and opportunities observed during daily operations
• Maintain timely, complete, and accurate records of all processes and outcomes, ensuring alignment with established objectives

Who you are:

• BSc or MSc in Agriculture or a related field, and at least 3 years of relevant experience
• Fluency in English and a pre-intermediate level of Hungarian are required
• Data analysis knowledge (R, Phyton, Tableau)
• A strong understanding of crop production and farm practices is essential, along with experience in nursery and hybrid seed production
• Proficiency in MS Office is required, along with an interest in software, data management, and the ability to quickly learn new programs. Approximately 25% of the role will involve computer-based tasks
• The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated, innovative, and have a proven track record in project management
• Exceptional organizational and record-keeping skills are necessary, with a strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and efficient operations
• The ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple tasks while meeting deadlines is critical for success in this role
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
• The candidate should be capable of working independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and initiative
• A strong desire for personal and professional growth at Bayer is expected
• Active B category driving license
