We are looking for an energetic and cooperative


Shipping Operator / Charterer
to join our Europe RP Shipping team in either Amsterdam, Netherlands or Espoo, Finland.

Your role in our team

• Participating in daily operations and chartering duties of barges in Shipping Europe RP team
• Communication between barges and relevant stakeholders of Neste
• Manage negotiations with barge owners, barge operators and brokers to conclude charter parties for the barges covering transportation requirements of Neste
• Optimising the schedule of time chartered barges with the cargoes to obtain the most cost-effective transportation solutions for Neste’s various business units
• Liaising with terminals, agents, brokers, barge owners etc relevant for barge operations
• Reporting barge movements internally
• Participating in different development tasks, subject to skills and interests

In the role of combined Shipping Operator / Charterer, you will be an important member of the Neste Shipping team (in Espoo, Finland) on daily barge movements. In your role, you will be handling among other things commercial operations of the barges operated by Neste and all the relevant tasks related to the same. You will be involved in performance follow-up of the barges for commercial optimization and reporting. You will work closely with barges, customers and other internal and external stakeholders like supply chain management, trading operators, ship brokers, agents and terminals, shipping invoicing team and claims & demurrage team. Your tasks will include instructing the barges regarding cargo transportation and following-up the fulfilment of trip and time charter agreements.

Keys to success in this role
We expect that you have some experience as a negotiator, self confidence and to be able to form your own market view on the basis of market reports and other relevant information. You must be able to work independently, but you also need to be a team player with good cooperation and interaction skills to actively create and maintain stakeholder contacts, both internally and externally as well as contribute to and support your colleagues. Courage to ask questions and help when necessary is also a strength.


The best combination of experiences, skills and background is

• Applicable education (e.g. maritime, commercial)
• Experience of commercial shipping
• Experience of working on or with barges and/or tankers either at sea or ashore is an advantage
• Knowledge of petroleum and renewable products logistics and carriage of the same at sea and/or inland waterways
• Customer service experience
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
