The NZ Police Asset Recovery Units’ primary role is to deny criminals the opportunity to benefit from their offending and remove their ability to re-invest in criminal activity.

The Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009 is a relatively new piece of legislation. New case law is being created constantly and you will be encouraged to use your initiative and explore ways of using the Act to recover criminal gains.

The Asset Recovery Unit is looking for a Forensic Accountant to join our diverse team of investigators and forensic accountants.

In this role you will utilise your experience and knowledge to identify and assess complex financial information and determine its relevance as evidence to investigations. Your role will involve working with investigative teams from within Police, as well as our external partner agencies.

Forensic Accountants review and assess a variety of alleged criminal enterprises and the finances behind them; demonstrating links between targets and alleged criminally acquired assets. You will determine and quantify legitimate and illegitimate income on an evidenced basis; working as part of a team to advance successful court proceedings to restrain and forfeit the assets derived from crime.

This is an exciting and challenging role which includes assisting investigators with interviewing subjects, as well as interacting with members of the local and international finance, law enforcement and business communities.

Key Accountabilities:
Prepare and present (written and verbal) information in a clear and concise manner.

Proficiency in utilising Excel and other financial analysis tools.

Analysis of evidence collected from criminal investigations.

Keeping accurate and detailed records of all information and decisions made.

Managing time effectively to complete multiple files and meet deadlines.

Identify and manage risk in relation to ongoing investigations.

Prepare and present pertinent evidence at court.

Display behaviours consistent with the core values of New Zealand Police and contribute towards the strategic goals of the organisation

Manage inter-agency partnerships.

This role is based in the Wellington area. Some travel may be required . While flexible working arrangements may be available, this role is not able to be performed remotely.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $102,808 and $108,894 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
