He angitūtanga | About the role
As Kaihautū, you will sit within the Office of the Director-General, playing a pivotal role in guiding the Department's leadership team to develop and operate as an honourable Treaty partner. You'll provide support to the leadership team to build quality relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi, using your specialist knowledge to contribute to the strategic direction and achievement of conservation outcomes.
The position will be focussed on:
- Help lead the Group to ensure it supports the delivery of DOC's vision and strategy
- Working with other Chiefs/Directors to agree whole of business group priorities, ensuring alignment and identifying areas for collaboration and efficiencies
- Supporting the Director-General with specialist Treaty Partnership knowledge and expertise
- Contribute to the development and delivery of a long-term plan for agreed outcomes and priorities
- Support the Group leadership team to ensure DOC operates as an honourable Treaty Partner
- Work closely with our Treaty Partner and a wide range of external stakeholders
If you have some of the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:
- Excellent standard of written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate clearly and confidently in te reo Māori and English.
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to work with senior stakeholders.
- Have experience in developing te ao Māori cultural capability at scale
- Extensive experience within the Public Sector.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining positive and effective relationships with Treaty partners.
- Deep knowledge of te Tiriti o Waitangi as it relates to organisational performance.
- Have exceptional people skills including influence, facilitation, collaboration and negotiation.
- Detailed knowledge of kaupapa Māori methodologies and frameworks.

The salary range for this position is $175,200 - $251,850 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
