Ko wai mātou | About Us
Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students). We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including tamariki (Y0-8), rangatahi Y8-10, and adult learners.
Our vision is to enable our ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities.
We uphold our values by prioritising ākonga success, respecting all, embracing diversity, celebrating innovation, and fostering open, honest communication. Ki te tī, ki te tā, ki te katoa – Anytime, anywhere, anyone.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position:
“Tuia te tamaiti ki ngā aka taumatua, kaua e tuia ki ngā aka taepa. Me aro ki te hā o te aka taumatua.”
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Primary Kaiako Years 1 - 6 to join our whānau in Te Aka Taumatua. Te Aka Taumatua is a new team that leads our bilingual and immersion te reo Māori provision for full-time, tamariki, rangatahi and dual registered ākonga at Te Kura. Te Aka Taumatua is still in its developmental stage but remains focussed on its role in the revitalisation of te reo Māori, to offer comprehensive options grounded in mātauranga Māori for ākonga and their whānau.
Te Aka Taumatua is a vine system that wraps around rākau. The vines carry the knowledge and wisdom of our people. It is a place that protects, nurtures and gives room to grow. One can come to seek shelter and safety and can then leave to go.
This role combines specialist learning support expertise with a commitment to te reo me ona tīkanga Māori, mātauranga Māori principles and practices and Te Ao Māori worldview.
Ko koe tēnei | About you:
We value:
  • Knowledge and appreciation of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori
  • Experience in creating inclusive learning environments that support diverse learners
  • Ability to build strong relationships with ākonga, whānau and kaimahi
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in both learning support and cultural competency
  • Creative and flexible approach to meeting individual learning needs
  • Competency in Te Reo Māori is a must for the successful candidate.
You are interested in authentic learning; you model current pedagogy and are always coming up with new ideas. You're enthusiastic, collaborative, understand the key competencies of the New Zealand curriculum assessment practice and are committed to improving education outcomes for students.
Hei whakautu | In return
Te Kura will provide you with the opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment and work in a team that offers genuine work flexibility as part of an organisation that makes a difference to ākonga Māori across Aotearoa.
