The New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) is the digital declaration used to collect information from travellers coming to Aotearoa New Zealand via air and sea. It helps us identify and manage customs, immigration, biosecurity, and health risks to the border.
The opportunity to evolve and enhance the NZTD product to positively impact travellers and Border Protection agencies involved in their journey is endless. Our vision is for a streamlined digital border that supports seamless travel by air and sea.
To help us achieve this multi-agency vision, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Product Manager to join the NZTD team. A driven product leader who can help shape the future direction of this product.

About this role...
Reporting to the NZTD Tower Manager this role drives meaningful outcomes for the organisation by connecting product functionality to strategic business objectives and success measures.
You are accountable for partnering with multi-agency stakeholders to shape meaningful outcomes that meet the needs of border agencies, customers and users.
You use knowledge, data, and insight to provide clear strategic direction to your loosely coupled highly aligned team(s) and will be working with them to predictably, iteratively, and incrementally deliver new and enhanced product functionality that is simultaneously valuable, feasible, usable, and viable.
You will also work with your team(s) to ensure the product is stable, resilient, robust, responsive, and available and will be on-call for after-hours high priority incident management on a rostered basis.
You will lead, coach, and mentor your team(s) to successfully deliver meaningful outcomes in their product areas, continuously improve their competencies, and achieve their career objectives.

To join Customs in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or NZ permanent resident.*
- This means:
a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at the time of application. You may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level. Due to the nature of Customs work, you must have a clear Police record. The successful applicant will also be required to pass a drug test as well as being subject to random, ongoing drug tests during their period of employment with Customs. (These requirements apply to all successful applicants for roles at Customs and Customs employees).
