The Older Persons Mental Health Community Team has a full-time opportunity for an experienced Social Worker, who has a passion for working in mental health and enthusiasm to make a difference in the lives of older persons. This role involves working directly with clients/tangata whai ora, whanau, NGO service providers, Primary Health sector and Aged Residential Care facilities with the support of our wider multi-disciplinary team.
The role also involves working alongside the team at the referral centre as required, managing intake and acute situations.

About the Team/Service/ Location
The Community Older Person - s Mental Health (OPMH) team is an inter-disciplinary team that provides a comprehensive range of services including inpatient, outpatient, and community based services, as well as psychiatric consultation/liaison service with medical and surgical teams at Christchurch hospitals.
The OPMH Community team is currently based at The Princess Margaret Hospital.
About you

• The successful candidate will have experience working in mental health and a passion to work alongside and make a difference in the lives of older persons. You will be a confident practitioner with exceptional assessment skills, the ability to develop individual management plans and evaluate client/tangata whai ora-centred goals. Personal attributes would include enthusiasm, self-motivation, excellent interpersonal skills, and fastidious attention to documentation.
• Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
• Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

Skills and Experience

• A New Zealand registered Social Worker with a current practicing certificate
• Effective interpersonal skills and confidence and ability to work effectively with a wide range of people
• Excellent time management skills
• Previous clinical experience working in a medical and/or surgical setting is preferred
