The role and opportunity

At Ag Research, our purpose is to use science to enhance the value, productivity, and profitability of New Zealand’s pastoral, agri-food, and agri-technology sector value chains to contribute to economic growth and beneficial environmental and social outcomes for New Zealand. We are committed to the knowledge system of mātauranga Māori on equal footing with Western science and existing structures, that have helped support positive change in farming practices and food production in Aotearoa. The role is based in our Environmental Science South team, a world-leading team of researchers developing solutions for environmental challenges in pastoral agriculture.

What you will be doing

This casual position is to assist with field and lab-based research experiments by collecting and processing biological samples, as directed by supervising researchers. The role supports a range of research projects, often working outdoors, both in a team and solo, sometimes outside of regular office hours.

You will be employed on a casual employment agreement, which means that there will be no guaranteed hours of work, no pattern of work, and no expectation of ongoing employment. As a casual employee you will be offered work ‘as and when required’.

Your ideal background

You will have experience with research experiments, especially collecting and processing biological samples.
A qualification or relevant experience in the agricultural sector, with knowledge of the local region.

We encourage applications from candidates with an understanding of or a willingness to develop their capability in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori, and/or te reo Māori.
