New Zealand Job Openings

New Zealand Government

Watchkeeper, Joint Forces

Wellington

FULL TIME

August 26, 2024

Mō te tūnga | About the role
You will be the first point of contact for Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand (HQJFNZ) operations. HQJFNZ is the New Zealand Defence Force's operational level headquarters and is responsible for the command and control of NZDF operations worldwide.
You will ensure 24/7 communication is maintained with deployed personnel and respond to emergency response requests from other government agencies.
You will work from HQJFNZ in Trentham. Due to the nature of this role, there is no option to work from home or remotely.
This role follows a 12 hour shift pattern, usually between 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. You will typically be rostered on for two days, two nights and then four days off. However, this can vary, so flexibility to respond to roster changes and cover shifts at short notice is required. Due to the roster cycle, some shifts will fall on the weekend. You will receive a salary loading payment on top of base salary to compensate for this.

Please Note:
The formal title for this role within the NZDF is Joint Watchkeeper.
Applications will be reviewed upon receipt. It is advised to apply early to avoid disappointment, as this role may close ahead of time due to a high volume of applicants.
As this role requires a high level of security clearance, you will need to be / have been a NZ, UK, Australian, Canadian or USA citizen for a minimum of 10 years to be eligible for this role. You must gain a security clearance before commencing employment so this role would not suit someone seeking an immediate start unless you already have a high level security clearance.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with a strong drive and commitment to the role, our organisation and most importantly our people. You will be a confident and proactive communicator with the ability to handle multiple sources of information and work well under pressure.

You will also have:
  • The flexibility and adaptability to manage changing demands and priorities.
  • A high degree of initiative and self-motivation with the ability to work sole charge when required and problem solve situational issues as they arise.
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to use MS Office Suite.
  • A Class 1 Full Driver's Licence.
An understanding of defence capabilities and methods of operation and experience operating in a classified or secure environment would be advantageous.
