Job Description :The Civil Engineer at Polaris Integrated and Geosolutions will be responsible for overseeing the design, planning, and execution of complex civil engineering projects within the oil and gas, mining, and construction sectors, particularly in the Niger Delta region. The role demands a high level of technical expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to quality and safety standards. The Civil Engineer will be instrumental in ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with regulatory requirements, while also driving innovation and efficiency in engineering practices. This position requires strong leadership capabilities to guide multidisciplinary teams, foster collaboration, and maintain the company's reputation for delivering exceptional earth solution services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Design:
- Conceptualization: Develop and refine initial project concepts, ensuring they align with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Detailed Engineering Design: Prepare comprehensive civil engineering designs, including structural, hydraulic, and geotechnical components, using advanced engineering software and tools.
- Site Feasibility Analysis: Conduct thorough feasibility studies, including topographical surveys, soil testing, and environmental impact assessments, to evaluate the suitability of project sites.
- Technical Specifications: Draft and review detailed technical specifications and design standards, ensuring that they meet industry codes and best practices.
- Construction Management:
- On-site Supervision: Oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensuring that work is performed according to design specifications, project plans, and safety standards.
- Quality Control: Implement and monitor quality control procedures, including material testing, inspection schedules, and compliance checks, to ensure the structural integrity and durability of all constructions.
- Resource Coordination: Manage and coordinate the deployment of resources, including labor, materials, and equipment, to optimize project efficiency and minimize delays.
- Issue Resolution: Identify and address any issues or discrepancies during construction, providing technical solutions and adjustments to keep the project on track.
- Surveying & Site Characterization:
- Advanced Surveying Techniques: Utilize the latest surveying technology and geospatial tools, such as Total Stations, GPS, and 3D laser scanning, to capture accurate site data.
- Geotechnical Analysis: Conduct in-depth geotechnical investigations to assess soil composition, stability, and other subsurface conditions that impact project design and construction.
- Data Interpretation: Analyze and interpret surveying data, creating detailed maps, models, and reports that guide project design and execution.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including building codes, environmental laws, and safety standards.
- Audit Management: Conduct internal audits and inspections to verify adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Corrective Actions: Develop and implement corrective action plans to address any non-compliance issues or deficiencies identified during audits or inspections.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and other specialists to integrate civil engineering aspects into the overall project plan.
- Stakeholder Communication: Prepare and present technical reports, progress updates, and design modifications to clients, regulatory bodies, and senior management.
- Technical Support: Provide expert technical guidance to junior engineers, site supervisors, and contractors, ensuring all team members understand project requirements and expectations.
- Procurement & Resource Management:
- Material Selection: Evaluate and select construction materials, considering factors such as cost, durability, environmental impact, and availability.
- Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors, negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
- Cost Control: Monitor project budgets closely, identifying potential cost overruns and implementing measures to keep projects within financial constraints.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Management:
- Safety Protocol Development: Design and implement comprehensive safety protocols and procedures, ensuring that all project activities comply with OSHA standards and other safety regulations.
- Environmental Impact Mitigation: Develop and enforce environmental management plans to minimize the ecological footprint of construction activities, including waste management, erosion control, and habitat protection.
- Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards, and develop mitigation strategies to prevent accidents and ensure worker safety.
- Educational Background:
- Academic Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree or specialized certifications (e.g., COREN, PMP, NSE) are highly desirable.
- Continuing Education: Commitment to ongoing professional development, with a preference for candidates who have completed additional courses in project management, structural analysis, or geotechnical engineering.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Engineering Software Expertise: Proficiency in civil engineering design and analysis software such as Auto CAD, Civil 3D, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, and Revit.
- Surveying and GIS Tools: Advanced skills in using surveying equipment and GIS software, including Total Stations, GPS, and Leica’s Cyclone and Infinity software.
- Materials Science Knowledge: In-depth understanding of construction materials, their properties, and appropriate applications in various environmental and structural conditions.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Data Analysis: Ability to analyze complex data from site investigations, environmental studies, and structural assessments to make informed decisions.
- Critical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate potential issues and develop effective solutions during all phases of project development.
- Project Management Capabilities:
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated experience in leading multidisciplinary project teams, managing project timelines, and ensuring deliverables are met.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize tasks, and delegate responsibilities effectively.
- Budgeting and Cost Management: Expertise in developing and managing project budgets, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within financial constraints.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Technical Communication: Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely in both written and verbal communication, tailored to various audiences including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
- Team Collaboration: Strong collaborative skills, with experience working in diverse, multidisciplinary teams to achieve common project goals.
- Client Relationship Management: Proficient in building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met and their expectations are exceeded.

- Safety Leadership: Strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety, with experience in developing and implementing comprehensive safety protocols.

- Environment:
- The role involves a combination of office work and fieldwork. The Civil Engineer may spend significant time on construction sites, exposed to varying weather conditions and terrain.
- Frequent travel within the Niger Delta region and potentially other parts of Nigeria is required.
- The role may require working long hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet project deadlines.
- Work Hours:
- Standard work hours, but flexibility is required to accommodate project demands.
- Extended hours during peak construction periods and project milestones may be necessary.
- Tools and Equipment:

- Visual Acuity: Sharp vision for reading detailed blueprints, maps, and survey data.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Port Harcourt: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
