JOB POSITION: Laboratory Scientist.
JOB LOCATION: Olodi-apapa, Lagos.
JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure the proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and procedures.
• Maintain laboratory safety by adhering to safety protocols, wearing proper protective gear, and following quality control processes.
• Ensure a sterile environment to prevent cross-contamination of samples.
• Log and track specimens and samples accurately.
• Process blood samples according to protocols and technical expertise.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment for optimal performance.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure essential laboratory supplies are stocked.
• Ensure proper testing and cross-matching of blood for transfusions.
• Upload patient results to the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
• Validate and communicate test results to doctors and patients.
• Liaise with external laboratories for sample testing and result coordination.
• Prepare daily reports of all laboratory investigations within the hospital.
• Ensure all test results are reviewed by doctors.
• Collaborate with other lab staff, healthcare providers, and patients.
• Perform pre-analytical procedures such as sample collection, separation, accessioning, and sample review for acceptance or rejection.
• Conduct sample testing, identify critical results, and escalate issues following protocols.
• Regularly check laboratory indicators, including equipment calibration.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation, including work logs, inventory records, and maintenance logs.
• Ensure timely release of laboratory results within set turnaround times.
• Adhere to good laboratory practices and optimize the use of commodities.
• Protect patient information and maintain confidentiality.
• Stay updated on scientific and technical advances in the field.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS)
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a Laboratory
• Certification as a licensed Laboratory Technician is mandatory (Certification from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) is preferred)

SKILLS:

• Attention to detail and good organizational skills
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Understanding of electronic and computerized equipment in laboratories
• Able to follow instructions and strictly follow procedures
• Basic computer skills, with proficiency in the use of Microsoft word.
• Interpersonal skills to develop professional relationships with patients.
• Collaborative skills to work with other medical care providers.
