Application Scientist III, Molecular Diagnostics

The position will focus on the broad and comprehensive portfolio of instruments and consumables solutions for molecular diagnostic testing. From manual to automated sample preparation of nucleic acids and applications for molecular diagnostics high throughput systems for cancer diagnostics, genetic disease analysis, biomarker discovery, and infectious disease testing. We are currently expanding our team supporting Molecular Diagnostics business and are seeking one Sr Manager and two Scientists to the molecular diagnostic team. The candidates will be supporting the development of new and existing molecular diagnostic applications using novel RNA and DNA technologies. The positions are permanent and will be based in our offices in Oslo, Norway.
Responsibilities:
- Assists customers with specialist technical support assessing potential applications of company products to meet customers’ needs via technical presentations and discussions.
- Provides application data based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application.
- Conducting practical tasks for studies such as DNA and RNA extraction, q PCR setup, gel electrophoresis, sample preparation for NGS Library, and handling biological samples.
- Accurate recording of laboratory work and experiments in laboratory notebooks or worksheets in a regulated environment. Conducting general maintenance and lab safety activities (equipment maintenance, consumable orders, receipt of material, lab stocking, housekeeping and similar activities).
- Apply basic analytical/technical skills to design experiments, interpret results and recommend improvements.
- Seek out information and options, share information, and participate in decision-making and execution on the project team.
- Prioritize experimental/technical tasks and analyze them effectively to ensure on-time delivery. Seek feedback when facing unclear priorities or logistical/technical challenges.
- Supports Product Managers in preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer applications/solutions.
- Provides follow-up support to company sales staff and customer service personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications.
Educational/experience requirements:
- Ph D or equivalent experience in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry (Master a minimum, Ph D degree preferred).
- Strong understanding of molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, purification, and amplification. Familiarity with genomic analysis applications like q PCR and NGS. Experience in proteomics, transcriptomics, or multiomics is a plus.
- Experience with purification methods using magnetic beads, conjugation, and surface chemistry; Knowledge of automation, writing scripts, and programming is preferred.
- Fluent in English with experience in technical communication (writing, presenting, discussing, listening).
- Experience of working in the biotech industry and with molecular testing is an advantage.
- Experience with problem analysis, troubleshooting techniques, statistics, and data analysis.
- Able to understand the problems that our customers are trying to solve, understand the customer’s current and future metrology requirements.

- Strong customer-facing skills, in the creation and delivery of presentations of data and marketing materials and in obtaining customer feedback.
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly inter-cultural awareness.
- Ability to collaborate with both internal and external customers.
- Goal-oriented with good track record of achieving targets on time.
- Good IT literacy; familiarity with file transfer, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
- Willing and able to travel, sometimes at short notice. Expect up to approx. 20% travel over a year.
