Communications Specialist

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat Pakistan requires the services of a Communications Specialist, to be based in its Gilgit Office. The incumbent in the existing communications setup, will contribute to developing a comprehensive communication strategy, aligning with AKAH's objectives, and utilizing innovative tools to drive effective engagement.
The key responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:
Communication Strategy Development
Develop and execute a communication strategy that aligns with AKAH Pakistan’s communication objectives.
Incorporate innovation in content delivery, utilizing creative tools to design compelling and interactive content for diverse platforms.
Mass Awareness, Advocacy, and Outreach Campaigns
Plan and implement creative awareness campaigns at national, regional, and local levels, incorporating roadshows, public demonstrations, outreach events, digital campaigns, and initiatives to raise awareness through agents of change and social media influencers. Additionally, organize interactive webinars and podcasts to enhance engagement.
Utilize creative software tools to produce high-quality brochures, newsletters, and digital content.
Videography and Multimedia Production
Produce engaging and high-quality multimedia content, including videos, animations, and success stories, to highlight project impacts and community involvement.
Use video editing tools and creative platforms to craft compelling content for awareness-raising, social media, websites, and other communication channels.
Graphic Design and Animation
Create dynamic infographics, animations, and multimedia products that emphasize energy efficiency practices and project outcomes.
Leverage tools that effectively communicate complex ideas in an accessible and visually appealing format.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
Collaborate with government entities, private sector partners, and local communities to promote the adoption of energy-efficient products and sustainable building practices.
Organize focus group discussions, interactive sessions, podcasts and capacity-building programs to ensure community engagement and promote green practices and energy-efficient initiatives.
Content Creation and Media Relations
Develop content for various platforms, including press releases, social media posts, and websites, ensuring timely and engaging information dissemination.
Build and maintain media relationships, organizing press briefings, media tours, and interviews to ensure consistent coverage of the project’s activities.
Enhance the outreach of AKAH Pakistan's social media platforms to expand audience engagement and awareness.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Track the effectiveness of communication strategies and public engagement efforts, providing regular reports on media coverage and communication impact.
Use data and feedback to continuously refine communication strategies, ensuring alignment with project objectives and stakeholder needs.
Support for Capacity-Building Initiatives
Assist in the development of training materials, multimedia content, and visual guides for capacity-building programs related to energy efficiency and sustainable energy solutions.
Collaborate with project teams to ensure that messaging in training materials is consistent, clear, and aligned with overall communication goals.
Success Stories
Collect and document success stories that highlight the impact of AKAH's initiatives in the region.
Use these stories in communication materials to inspire and inform stakeholders about the community benefits emanating from AKAH's work.
The requirements
Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Multimedia, or a related field.
6-7 years of experience in communication roles, preferably in the humanitarian and development sector.
Expertise in developing and managing communication strategies, media relations, and public awareness campaigns.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Canva for graphic design, video production, and content creation, as well as video editing software (e.g., Premiere Pro, Da Vinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects) for animations.
Experience using Google Earth Pro for mapping project interventions and impacts.
Proven experience with video production, motion graphics, and social media content.
Familiarity with energy efficiency, sustainability, or climate change topics is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Creative thinker with experience in leveraging tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite to develop engaging communication materials.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in English, with knowledge of local languages (Urdu, regional dialects) being an asset.
The position is based in Gilgit-Baltistan, with frequent travelling to AKAH Pakistan programme areas and Islamabad.

About the Agency
A new agency, the Aga Khan Agency for the Habitat (AKAH), works to ensure that people live in physical settings that are as safe as possible from the effects of natural disasters, that residents who do live in such high risk areas are able to cope with disasters in terms of preparedness and response, and that these settings provide access to social and financial services that lead to greater opportunities and a better quality of life. The new agency merges the activities of the Aga Khan Planning and Building Services, with its prize-winning water and sanitation programmes and low-cost habitat products, such as smoke-free stoves; the humanitarian arm of AKDN, FOCUS, which promotes disaster mitigation and resiliency and intervenes after disasters; the AKDN’s Disaster Risk Management Initiative, which focuses on disaster preparedness in remote areas; and the environment- and habitat-related activities of the Aga Khan Foundation, including the Prince Sadruddin Fund for the Environment and the Foundation’s highly regarded rural support programmes.
