Aquaculture Technician

Offer Description
We are seeking a highly motivated technician to support and assist in the operation and services of the Champalimaud Fish Platform. The selected candidate will join a dynamic and detail-oriented team with a strong team spirit.
Dues and responsibilities of the appointed candidate include

• Maintenance of recirculating aquaculture systems for multiple freshwater fish species and related equipment;
• Monitorization of water quality;
• Maintenance of live feed cultures;
• Crosses, housings and embryo care;
• Larval rearing;
• Record keeping;
• Fish health checks;
• Technical assistance to researchers;
• Other tasks relevant for the maintenance and development of high scientific and animal welfare standards.

Skills/Qualifications
Preferential selection criteria

• Experience in recirculating aquaculture systems
• Personal animal experimentation license
• Prior work in a research environment

This is a full-time position requiring ability to prioritize efficiently and multitask, without compromising attention to detail and record keeping. Postholder will be asked to work within an on-call rota and to adjust daily duties according to the needs of the Platform. The ideal candidate will be organized, responsible, committed and a team worker. Strong logical skills are also required.Specific Requirements

• Candidates must hold a Bachelor degree in Life/Biological Sciences;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Strong teamwork skills;
• Excellent Level of English.

Selection Method
Initial selection methods shall be as follows: curriculum (60%) and motivation letter (40%). Top candidates might be called for interviews, and evaluations from references will be considered, as well as their perceived fit and potential contribution to the Fish Platform.
