Job Overview:
The Telecom Field Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunication equipment, such as fiber optics, base transceiver stations (BTS), microwave systems, and other wireless networks. The role requires extensive fieldwork, with engineers often traveling to remote sites to ensure that systems operate efficiently and resolve any issues promptly.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation and Commissioning:
Install and configure telecom systems such as fiber optic cables, radio equipment, BTS, antennas, and routers.
Commission new telecom systems, ensuring they are fully operational.
Work with network planning and design teams to implement system upgrades and expansions.
Maintenance and Repair:
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of telecom infrastructure, including towers, power systems, and transmission equipment.
Identify and troubleshoot network faults and resolve any issues affecting performance.
Perform hardware and software upgrades and replace faulty equipment when necessary.
Monitoring and Testing:
Perform diagnostic tests on telecom systems to assess performance and ensure uptime.
Use specialized testing tools to check signal strength, interference, and overall network health.
Prepare detailed reports on system performance and maintenance activities.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and hours worked.
Report any major issues or equipment failures to management and propose solutions.
Keep up-to-date with telecom technologies and changes to industry standards.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, particularly when working at height or in confined spaces.

Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Knowledge: Expertise in telecom systems such as fiber optics, RF (Radio Frequency) technologies, microwave transmission, and digital communications.

Fieldwork Experience: Comfortable working in outdoor environments and traveling to remote locations.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication to explain complex technical issues and prepare reports.
