Job Description

Is a member of the engine room department, reports to the chief engineer/second engineer and is responsible for the following:-

a) The maintenance and repair of all electrical/electronic equipment on board (with the exception of the equipment special to the System Engineering Department) and including all generators (high and low voltages), main propulsion system, steering gear, thrusters systems, deck machinery, engine room machinery, its monitoring equipment and instrumentation, cable handling machinery, pumps, refrigeration units, air conditioning/ventilation systems, workshop machinery, low power supplies and batteries, galley equipment, laundry equipment, fire-fighting equipment, alarm systems, lighting and domestic appliances, etc.

b) The propulsion control console, the power distribution control panels and distribution wiring throughout the ship.

c) Arranging regular inspections/test of all electrical equipment including main propulsion motors, steering gear, thrusters system and cable machinery and carry out daily routine inspections as required.

d) Implementing planned maintenance schedules and completing appropriate records/reports. Ensuring appropriate priority is given to the diagnosis and repair of faults.

e) Ensuring required safety precautions are observed at all times and that all work conforms to classification society’s requirements

f) Controlling and monitoring sufficient electrical stores and consumables are kept on board.

g) Maintaining all necessary records, circuit diagrams and manuals, etc.

h) Allocating work to the subordinates and give guidance when required. Ensuring Standing-by for arrival and departure from port.

i) Keeping abreast of developments in the electrical and electronic field.

j) Contributing as required to the design, building or inspection of new project.

Job Requirement

a) Candidate must possess at least a Diploma/ Degree in Electrical Engineering

b) Possess Certificate of Competency Electro-Technical Officer

c) Possess all necessary STCW certificate

d) Possess High Voltage Installation certificate
