As the Head of Downstream Process, MSAT you will be responsible for the Downstream Process department, which provides purification process support to both 2K and 20K processes. The major responsibility is in providing employee guidance; development and coaching to ensure the teams are aligned to the department strategy and working with the HOD to align with site’s strategy and support the site to deliver on our current contracts and business pursuits
Key responsibilities:

Lead a team of Process Engineers/Experts to provide MSAT support for purification stages of the customer’s manufacturing campaigns at Lonza Singapore. Work with technical experts from Lonza’s customer companies and with Lonza Manufacturing (MFG), Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and other departments towards successful pre-campaign preparation, campaign support and post-campaign analyses. Forge strong relationships with manufacturing counterparts to serve as a natural extension of the manufacturing team.
Ensure manufacturing training is appropriately designed for each product and provide necessary floor support to supplement pre-campaign training resulting in processes being executed accurately with minimal deviations
Develop the team as center of excellence for purification expertise across processes and strive to be recognized as such across the Lonza network and by customers.
Develop basic understanding of other areas (eg. working knowledge of cell culture) to enable broad technical discussions with customers during technology transfer, process support or investigations.
Provide technical expertise/support during new process introduction and Engineering/commercial runs and perform technical investigations and support close-out of deviations, trouble-shoot process excursions/issues during production.
Work with Development Service team and direct activities in the small-scale downstream process lab to support process investigations.
Identify system level areas for improvement within department or site and propose projects to drive such improvements. Use technical knowledge to influence decision making at site level.
Lead strategy, preparation and discussions during inspections and audits by customer and regulatory authorities.
Liaise with Global/MSAT groups at other Lonza sites to implement best practices.
Communicate clearly in face to face and written communications to successfully influence matrix internal and external teams in order to meet site goals.
Supervise and mentor direct reports.

Key requirements:

Degree/ Masters in Biological Sciences, Biochemical / Chemistry/ Microbiology or any related discipline.
Minimum 15+ years of experience in Biotech Industry experience in process development, process scale up/manufacturing and Process Validation. Experience with large scale manufacturing support (mammalian preferred), current Good Manufacturing Practices, US / EU regulations, supervision.
Demonstrates critical thinking skills in problem solving and decision making.
