Head of Fleet Optimization (Saudi)

1. JOB PURPOSE
Aramco Trading Company is responsible for maximizing value through optimization of its supply chain and proactively capturing market opportunities. This is achieved through system balancing and commercial optimization of the Saudi Aramco system, growth of third-party trading and managing risk across the products global supply chain.
The Head of Fleet Optimization will be responsible for managing the Fleet Optimization team; which includes commercially optimizing the time-chartered (TC) fleet’s voyage program to maximize time and space utilization, reducing bunker cost and reducing the company’s need for spot fixtures. Internally, the TC fleet is used to provide tonnage for the following product books: LPG, Crude, Chemicals, Naphtha, Gasoline, Jet, Diesel and Fuel Oil. In addition to fulfilling internal tonnage shorts, fleet optimization needs to coordinate with the Commercial Shipping team to identify and capture external out-chartering opportunities with 3rd party cargo owners. The role requires a hands-on Fleet Optimization specialist with solid experience in effective bunker management, fleet operations and people management. The Head of Fleet Optimization will champion the use of data and technology to improve the Time Charter fleet efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
2. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/KNOWLEDGE
Formal Education
10 – 15 + years’ experience with 8+ years in a hands-on leadership role managing a geographically dispersed team of fleet operators.
Industry knowledge: In-depth understanding of supply/demand fundamentals of physical market, transportation infrastructure and products carried, marine operations, standard terms and conditions of contracts and value of variations in specification and volume.
Commodities trading knowledge: Understands oil and refined product trading fundamentals and keeps up to date with international events and geo-political climate.
Risk knowledge: Understands and comfortably manages risk inherent in fleet and bunkering operations and develops robust control measures to ensure supply chain risks are managed and controlled where possible.
Financial knowledge: Understands the financial voyage lifecycle from inception to invoicing and settlement.
People Management : Strong people skills with natural gravitas to manage, motivate and drive change in a geographically dispersed team.
3. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Develop and implement an annual fleet optimization strategy; working alongside freight traders and operations. Review trading strategy regularly with Shipping Global Head and manage relationships with logistics partners to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
2.
Champion use of data and technology to improve Time Charter fleet efficiency, performance, cost-effectiveness and to reduce emissions and improve CII ratings of the fleet. Identify and deploy technology solutions that enhance and support business processes.
3.
Identify, analyze and improve existing business processes to boost efficiency and productivity. Facilitate change management initiatives related to process improvements and communicate changes effectively to stakeholders.
4.
Ensures that ATC commitments are met in the most reliable and economical way. Coordinate closely with Global Heads and freight traders to ensure efficient execution of charter party contracts.
5.
Identity and mitigate risks associated with business processes and implement controls to ensure regulatory compliance and industry standards.
6.
Develop new and enhance existing shipping procedures as well as ensuring effective implementation.
7.
Create and deliver training programs for employees to ensure understanding and adherence to fleet optimization processes.
8.
Effectively communicates with ship-owners, brokers, and other involved parties in the industry to obtain efficient up to date intelligence towards developing a forward view of the shipping markets.
9.
Perform ad-hoc special projects under the direction of the Global Head of Shipping.

Formal Education
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Logistics, Freight Forwarding, Supply Chain Management or business-related discipline.
- A Master’s Degree in either Marine Transportation or Business Administration (MBA) is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
- 15 + years of Fleet Operations experience with a proven background in process improvement and use of technology to maximize Fleet Optimization within the oil industry.
- 10+ years of experience in shipping logistics and operations.
- Extensive contacts with Ship Owners, Bunker Suppliers and Ship Brokers throughout the world.
