Howden South Africa Division is looking for an experienced Materials Lead for a project at Tutuka Power Station on a fixed term contract of 18 months. The Materials lead will be responsible for all aspects of the material handling, stores management, development and optimisation of site logistics solutions to meet the needs of the project. The incumbent will be required to manage the movement of people, goods and equipment at the construction site and control site facilities management.

Howden South Africa Division is looking for an experienced Materials Lead for a project at Tutuka Power Station on a fixed term contract of 18 months. The Materials lead will be responsible for all aspects of the material handling, stores management, development and optimisation of site logistics solutions to meet the needs of the project. The incumbent will be required to manage the movement of people, goods and equipment at the construction site and control site facilities management.
What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…
- Plan site set-up to move plant, and materials around site efficiently and safely.
- Plan internal materials routes through the site, lay down areas and offloading points.
- Responsible for all traffic management.
- Create operational procedures and method statements.
- Liaising with contractors and subcontractors in accordance with the schedule.
- Ensuring materials are brought to site as and when required.
- Control materials in and out of site.
- The coordination and supervision of all material receipts and issuing in line with procedures.
- Keeping detailed records of all material movements throughout.
- Responsible for supporting construction with all their materials, tools and equipment, including logistical support.
- Responsible for material warehouse, maintaining, balancing stock levels and generating inventory reports.
- Responsible for maintaining daily records of equipment, incoming and outgoing materials.
- Responsible for conducting regular audits of inventory.
- Responsible for coordinating purchasing and supply of materials.
- Storing of materials as per appropriate storage code requirements.
- Ensuring the organisation’s health and safety policies are implemented and followed.
- Making sure that PPE is available on site.
- Capable of managing sub-contractors to deliver their package of goods or services.
- Variation control and early communication of foreseeable change.
- Organise resources to enable contract deadlines to be achieved.
- Responsible for ensuring logistics activities are not a constraining factor on the schedule.
- Responsible for ensuring that material movement to and from the workface does not cause damage to the works, the workforce or the public.
- Complete safety inspections to company and client standards.
- Ensure team has safety training to the company and client’s standard.
- Ensure all equipment is inspected, maintained and tested to agreed frequencies.
- Ensure supervisors provide and record ‘Toolbox Talks’ to workforce
- Qualified Artisan preferably a Fitter, Boilermaker or Welder or Higher
- Diploma project management
- NEC course
- 5 years’ experience of Managing of materials on a Construction sites
- Computer literate
- Power generation plant experience
- Driver’s license
- Medically fit in terms of SHE Act
- Must be computer literate.
- Management qualification
