Ph D position in metabolic image processing for
building AI algorithms and obtain biomarkers for

JOB DESCRIPTION
Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public sector institution, located in Barcelona (Spain) that
promotes and develops innovative biomedical research at the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron. VHIR is
oriented towards finding solutions to the health problems of the citizens and has the will to contribute to the
scientific, educational, social and economic development within its area of competence around the world.
VHIR offers a job opportunity for a Ph D student at the Medical Molecular Imaging Research Group. The Ph D
candidate will be involved in an exciting project aimed at developing new AI algorithms to automatize the
analysis of images as well as to set biomarkers of pathology to use for diagnosis or prognosis in Type 2
Diabetes. This is a highly interdisciplinary research project that will allow the candidate to participate in a strong
collaboration between GRIMM and the UPF University. In addition to her/his individual scientific project, the
candidate will benefit from further continuing education, which will include appropriate training and access to
transferable skills courses as well as active participation in workshops and conferences.

Education and qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's and Master's degrees in any of these life science disciplines: Engineering, Physics, Biology,
Chemistry, Pharmacy or similar
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or English (professional level)

  • Methodical, organized and with good teamwork skills
Desired:

  • Familiarized with image processing
  • Familiarized with PET, CT, ECO and RM images

  • Familiarized with AI techniques (Deep learning and machine learning)
  • Good academic and master thesis scores (at least 7.5 of average)
  • Knowledge of statistical methodologies

Experience and knowledge:

Required:
  • Skilled in image processing
  • Experienced in statistical models

Desired:
  • Experience with building AI models
  • Prior experience in PET image processing
Main responsibilities and duties:
  • Analysis of several images from clinical and preclinical trials
  • Building AI algorithms
  • Dissemination of results at national/international conferences
  • Writing up scientific manuscripts for publication

Labour conditions:
  • Full-time position: 40h/week.
  • Starting date: September 2024
  • Gross annual salary: Remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our
Collective Agreement pay scale
  • Contract: Predoctoral
