Biopharmaceutical Scientist - Post-doc in Inhaled Drug Delivery

Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D) is a global function tasked with design, development, commercialization and support of Astra Zeneca’s medicines and reports to the EVP of Operations. Inhalation Product Development (IPD) in Gothenburg sits within PT&D and is responsible for the development of inhalation products including combinations. Inhalation Product Development delivers the therapies of the future through scientific leadership in drug delivery, formulation and manufacturing the final drug product.

We now seek a dedicated and motivated Biopharmaceutics Scientists / post-doc with a background in computational fluids dynamics and mathematical modelling for an exciting 2-year research project and fixed term contract in the Inhalation Product Development unit in Gothenburg, Sweden. For a successful candidate with Ph D, the role will be regarded as a post-doc position.

What you’ll do
The project aims at studying population variability of inhaled drug delivery and deposition in the lung. You will work in a project team on studying how different inhaled formulations and devices impact deposition in mouth, throat and the different regions of the lung and more specifically describe the variability of this as it relates to subject attributes and handling of the drug product. You will also use physiologically-based biopharmaceutical modelling to link the predicted deposition patterns to clinical datasets. The work should result in a scientific publication.

Minimum Requirements

Ph D in a relevant discipline (such as engineering).
Minimally 3 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics.
Proven strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability and inclination to work collaboratively in a team.
Documented independence in problem solving

Preferred Requirements

Track record of preparing scientific publications and presentations.
Previous experience with aerosol delivery and characterisation
Previous experience of modelling particle deposition in respiratory airways
