Range Safety Officer
At SSC we enable our customers to make better use of space. Through the efforts of our approximately 700 employees around the world, we provide specialized competence in design, test, launch and operation of space and air systems. The Science Services Division launch rockets and balloons to major part from Esrange Space Center. Scientific and technical tests are also conducted at the site. We also develop rocket and balloon systems including experiment equipment for microgravity research.

YOUR ROLE
As a Range Safety Officer, you will be responsible for the overall operational safety at Esrange Space Center. You will ensure we maintain safe operations and that safety is implemented in accordance with the Esrange Safety Manual. You will have a close collaboration with the flight safety and ground safety functions, working with our safety systems and their critical parameters for safety operations including trajectory and risk calculations and ground safety risk analysis. We focus on strengthening the flight safety and regulatory competence within our Range Safety Office.
WHO YOU ARE

• To enjoy the position, you are interested in leadership, have organizational skills and knowledge in safety and risk management.

• We believe you have an academic degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

• You have good judgement and can maintain logical thinking and take decisions under high pressure.

• You have strong analytical skills together with your ability to communicate with clear messages.

• It is seen as an extra merit if you have experience from safety work at high safety facilities, knowledge in aerospace regulations and/or experience of modelling of rocket and balloon trajectories or flight termination systems.

• Experience from ground safety and cryogenic systems work is a merit

• You should be fluent in English and ideally also in Swedish, but not mandatory

LOCATION
We offer a permanent position with normal working hours daytime 40h/week. As part of our team, you will also take part in rocket and balloon campaigns which are scheduled outside normal working hours. Your main workplace will be at Esrange Space Center, and we also offer a possibility to work from our new office in central Kiruna from time to time.


Esrange Space Center is the launch and operations facility of SSC, located outside Kiruna in the north of Sweden. At Esrange we have excellent launch facilities, and we provide services to scientists and space organizations worldwide.
