Project Title: Development of Non-linear Model Predictive Control Techniques for Thermal Energy Management in Electric Vehicles under Cold Climate Conditions
Project Description:
The proposed thesis project focuses on the development and implementation of advanced Non-linear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) strategies for the Thermal Energy Management System (TEMS) in electric vehicles (EVs), specifically tailored for operation under cold climatic conditions.
The primary objectives are:

Plant Model tuning in GT-SUITE:
Retune and calibrate the existing plant model of the TEMS in GT-SUITE to accurately simulate thermal dynamics and heat transfer processes in sub-zero temperatures. -
Development of Advanced NMPC Methods:
Investigate and implement state-of-the-art NMPC algorithms suitable for controlling non-linear, multivariable systems with constraints. -
Stability and Robustness Analysis:
Ensure the designed NMPC controller is both stable and robust under varying operating conditions and model uncertainties. -
Simulation and Validation:
Validate the performance and efficacy of the NMPC strategies through comprehensive simulations and testing: -

MATLAB/Simulink Integration:
Develop a co-simulation environment linking GT-SUITE and MATLAB/Simulink for dynamic analysis. -
Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Testing:
Implement the NMPC algorithms on a real-time simulator or ECU to test controller performance under realistic conditions. -
Performance Metrics Evaluation:
Analyze key performance indicators such as thermal regulation accuracy, energy consumption, computational load, and response time.

- Master's student in Control Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a strong foundation in control theory and thermal systems.
- Experience in GT-SUITE for thermal system modeling and simulation.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, including Control System and MPC Toolboxes.
- Good understanding of non-linear control theory, numerical optimization, and computational algorithms.
