Passionate about the Environment and AI?
We are looking for a motivated intern to help us leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address environmental challenges. This role involves working on a project that utilizes Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML), Large Language Models (LLMs), and risk analysis to solve environmental problems.


About the Role
Reporting to the Lead Data Scientist and collaborating closely with teams from across our global locations, you will work on extracting, analyzing, and quantifying data (PDFs, tabular data, web data) to provide environmental risk insights.
Our headquarters are in Nyon, Switzerland supported by four global offices located in London, Chicago, Puerto Rico and Singapore. Our London office opened in 2011 and has approximately 30 of the firm’s 100 staff.


Who We Are Looking For

• Interest in AI applied to environmental solutions.
• Experience or exposure to LLMs and basic NLP tools.
• Basic understanding of environmental risk analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and AI/ML libraries.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Able to provide personal examples of using Gen AI services to help solve problems and write code.
• Excellent communication skills, emphasizing collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pursuing or finished a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Environmental Science, or related fields, and looking for hands-on experience.

What You Will Do

• Curate publicly available datasets: Identify and gather relevant environmental datasets from public sources and evaluate their usefulness for the project.
• Offer possible data sources: Explore and propose additional data sources, both structured and unstructured, for risk quantification.
• Web scraping: Develop and apply web scraping techniques to gather data from online resources to enhance environmental risk modeling.
• Research AI and statistical approaches: Investigate the latest advancements in AI and statistics, suggesting methods for risk quantification and optimization.
• Text extraction for new features: Perform text extraction to identify and extract new features that will contribute to the risk analysis models.
• Develop and implement models: Build and implement AI models to extract, analyze, and quantify environmental risk data.
• Report findings and present insights: Document your work, conduct thorough analysis, and present results in a clear, actionable format.
