The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch ("HRW") is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director to focus on fundraising, including outreach events and initiatives, in the Geneva area and other French speaking regions of Switzerland. This full-time position will be based in our Geneva office and will report to the Geneva Director in the Development and Outreach Department.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in a hybrid setting, spending 2-3 days per week in the Geneva office, depending on tax status. We aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in recruiting and onboarding this position.
Responsibilities:

Work with the Geneva Director on the development and implementation of the fundraising strategy for Geneva and other French speaking regions of Switzerland;
- Collaborate with the Geneva fundraising team on research, identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors, representing the work of HRW to existing and prospective supporters to secure donations and grow financial support, managing their own portfolio of donors;

Lead the organization and production of the Geneva flagship fundraising event, the Geneva Voices for Justice Annual Dinner, by ensuring that the roles and responsibilities are clearly distributed, managing and coordinating the project with respect of the timeline and commitments of stakeholders; managing the relationships with the Annual Dinner committee and various stakeholders; developing speeches with speakers; progressively taking over the management of all aspects of the auction, including securing matching donations and securing the lots, identifying and briefing the auctioneer; develop an analysis of the Annual Dinner;
- Oversee Annual Dinner income tracking, expenditure budgets and regularly monitor the department budget to ensure that Annual Dinner resources are allocated appropriately and that expenses are respected;
- Manage some fundraising, outreach, and cultivation events such as film screenings, researcher briefings, privately hosted dinners, field trips and other events in line with HRW's branding and policy guidelines, including ensuring adequate follow-up and archiving of information in Salesforce;
- Support the Director in the management of and strategic planning for the Committee and other sub-committees in Geneva, including Committee communications and initiatives, with some administrative support from the Senior Coordinator;

Oversee gift processing managed by the Senior Coordinator, as well as donor support services in Salesforce, including but not limited to: mailings, gift tracking and acknowledgments;

Oversee the maintenance of donor lists, fundraising reports, and office and event expenses;
- Participate in the recruitment, training, and supervision of interns;
- Incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion values and initiatives into the division's work, in coordination with the DEI Office and departmental leadership; and
- Perform other responsibilities as may be required.
Education: A bachelor's degree in international relations, social sciences, communications/marketing, or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years of donor or volunteer management, philanthropy or fundraising experience and demonstrated success in managing large-scale events is required.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong experience in managing relationships with private and institutional major donors is required.
- Demonstrated commitment to human rights issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW are required.
- Creativity, initiative, follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and in French are required.
- Ability to effectively build donor and volunteer relationships is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within HRW as well as with external partners are required. Track record of effective team work is highly desirable.
- Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work well under pressure are required.
- Strong computer skills are required. Experience with Salesforce, Constant Contact and knowledge of social media are highly desirable.
