Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading
UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and
non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the
benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:
Background Information
At IOM Headquarters, within the Humanitarian Coordination Unit of the Department of
Humanitarian Response and Recovery (DHRR), the Ukraine Coordination Cell (UCC) manages
IOM’s overall response in Ukraine and affected countries in the region. Over two years into the
full-scale war, the response continues to be a priority for humanitarian and development
partners, as almost 10 million people remain affected by displacement, within Ukraine and
across borders. Against this backdrop, IOM has issued its Strategic Response Plan: Ukraine
and Neighbouring Countries (2024-2026) which will drive the Organization’s initiatives for the
next three years, aiming to reach the most vulnerable.

Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Information Management Officer and in close coordination
with DHRR, the Graphic Designer Intern will support the design and development of visual
information products related to IOM's operations, including print and online publications,
ensuring alignment with IOM's branding guidelines.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Support the design and development of relevant information products, including situation
reports, annual reports, infosheets, appeals, and other materials as required.

2. Assist in the design and development of standardized templates to support Country Offices
and ensure adherence to IOM’s internal branding guidelines.

3. Enhance the visual elements of maps and other statistical analysis products generated by the
information management officer and other teams.

4. Assist the team in the preparation of donor factsheets and achievements and activity
reporting formats.

5. Support the implementation of the Knowledge Management strategy, including updating and
managing the Ukraine Data Hub Share Point site, and liaising with various offices to ensure all
content is continuously up to date.


6. Provide graphic design support for event materials, including banners, flyers, and
presentations, as well as assist in the printing of reports for donor briefings.

7. Assist in developing and delivering training and workshops to enhance graphic design skills.
8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Training Components and Learning Elements
  • The Intern will gain practical experience in designing various information products, ensuring
they are visually appealing and adhere to IOM’s branding guidelines and publications layout
manual.
  • The Intern will develop skills in designing and maintaining standardized templates for
consistency across Country Offices.
  • The Intern will gain proficiency in data analysis and visualization, enhancing their ability to
create maps, charts, and infographics to communicate complex information effectively.
  • The Intern will acquire skills in Share Point site administration, including permissions
management, content organization, and site customization.
  • The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff.
  • The Intern will have the opportunity to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM
Missions. Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Information Management, or a related field
from an accredited academic institution. Experience
  • Experience in graphic design and visual communication;
  • Experience in design for online and print distribution; and,
  • Experience with database information systems and data visualization tools (Power BI, Datylon)
is an asset; Skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, In Design);
  • Excellent communication skills: capable of sharing ideas and explaining design concepts;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point); and,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be
fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of either
French, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Slovak, Romanian, or Hungarian is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process,
which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Eligibility and Selection
In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM
programmes and activities;
b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for
whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in
specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme
(minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
e) are at least 20 years old.

  • Depending on experience and location, IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset
costs.

Other:
The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.
Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment,
accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and background verification and security
clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be
required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the
medical clearance process.
