About Liom

Liom is a Swiss deep-tech startup dedicated to revolutionizing the field of personalized health monitoring. Our objective is to develop the first health wearable monitoring glucose non-invasively. We will launch our wearable as a consumer product in the EU in H1’2027, and then as a medically cleared product in the US. Our team consists of over 70 staff, including more than 50 Ph Ds, with deep expertise in entrepreneurship, product development, and the required engineering as well as scientific disciplines. We are operating out of our lab facilities in Pfäffikon SZ, Switzerland, and our office in San Francisco, United States.

Your mission

• Simulation and Modeling: Utilize advanced light simulation tools, such as Light Tools, along with other simulation software like Zemax, COMSOL, to model optical systems and photonic devices, predicting performance characteristics and guiding design iterations.
• Optical System Design: Lead the design and development of complex optical systems, including lenses, mirrors, waveguides, and fiber optics, ensuring they meet project specifications and performance requirements.
• Spectroscopy Development & Integration: Develop and implement optical spectroscopy solutions for label-free sensing of biomarkers in biological fluids and tissue.
• Mentorship & collaboration: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, and software engineers.
• Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports for internal use and regulatory submissions.

Your profile

Essential skills

• Ph D in physics, physical chemistry or in a optics and photoncis related field
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in optics and photonics engineering, with a proven track record of leading successful projects.
• Expert knowledge in simulation tools such as Light Tools & Zemax.
• Hands-on experience in the development and testing of spectroscopy systems and equipment.
• Expertise in optical system design, photonic device development, and spectroscopy systems.
• Experience with laser systems, optical fibers, spectrometers, and photonic integrated circuits (PICs) is a plus.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Our recruitment process

Starting with a 30-minute introductory phone interview, we proceed to group/technical interviews, ideally followed by an on-site interview and tour of our facilities. We aim for a swift process while allowing both parties to obtain a full picture.
